Tony Romo sits out Dallas Cowboys' preseason opener

The Dallas Cowboys will begin their preseason schedule tonight without Tony Romo.

Cowboys coach Jason Garretttold NFL Network's Stacey Dales that Romo will not see any action in Sunday's Hall of Fame Game against the Miami Dolphins. The Romo-less Cowboys went on to beat the Dolphins 24-20.

The decision is not a surprise. It was reported Friday that the Cowboys would sit their starting quarterback, who had surgery to remove a cyst on his back in May. The unsettled nature of Dallas' offensive line at this stage also likely factored into Garrett's decision.

Last week, Romo expressed his wishes to play Sunday, but the Cowboys opted to go the conservative route. With four preseason games still to come after Sunday, the move is hard to second guess.
