In his first regular-season action in more than a year, Tony Romo ripped passes and diced up the Philadelphia Eagles secondary for a touchdown on his only drive of the year.
Romo took over for Dak Prescott in the second quarter of Sunday's loss to the Eagles and instantly led the Cowboys to a 10-3 lead.
Romo's first pass since November 26, 2015, was a deep shot that fell incomplete to Terrance Williams. He was perfect from there on out, finishing the drive 3-of-4 passing for 29 yards and a TD. He also earned a defensive pass interference on a bomb to Dez Bryant that set up a 3-yard TD strike to Williams
Romo looked vintage in his one series, displaying good zip over the middle and pinpoint accuracy. His trade stock couldn't be higher after the performance.
The Cowboys wanted the veteran to knock the rust off in case he's needed if Prescott gets hurt in the postseason. Mission accomplished.
Mark Sanchez took over under center for Dallas.
In two drives, Prescott went 4-of-8 passing for 37 yards before exiting. The rookie got popped on his final pass of the day before giving way to Romo.
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett played it safe with several of his stars in the regular-season finale. Ezekiel Elliott and linebacker Sean Lee both dressed but remained tied to the bench. Dallas' offensive line started reserve left tackle Emmett Cleary and backup left guard Joe Looney.
If those were the last passes Romo makes in his Cowboys career, he went out in style.
