The collection of offensive tackles in the 2014 class might be the deepest and most talented group NFL scouts have seen in about a decade. There are as many as eight offensive tackles worthy of first-round grades; the players at the top of the board are franchise players capable of making an immediate impact on the fortunes of their prospective teams.
Greg Robinson is the crown jewel of the class, with extraordinary physical ability and potential. Jake Matthews isn't flashy, but he displays a technically sound game that should make him a perennial Pro Bowler early in his career.
1. Greg Robinson, Auburn
It's rare to find big, athletic offensive tackles who excel at mauling defenders in the run game, yet display the balance and body control to dance with shifty rushers on the edges.
2. Jake Matthews, Texas A&M
A technical marvel with a solid overall game. He's not an elite athlete, but Matthews' experience on both sides of the line makes him a hot commodity in draft rooms around the league. With an impressive workout at the Combine revealing better-than-anticipated athleticism, Matthews could make a run at the top spot before the draft process is over.
3. Taylor Lewan, Michigan
Athletic edge blocker with a gritty demeanor. Still mastering the nuances of the position, but he should continue the Wolverines' long tradition of producing elite offensive tackles.
4. Zack Martin, Notre Dame
After surprising scouts with his athleticism and body control at the Senior Bowl, Martin is poised to enter the NFL projected as a left tackle. If he fails on the outside, scouts believe he could be a Pro Bowl-caliber offensive guard.
5. Cyrus Kouandjio, Alabama
Kouandijo didn't play up to expectations in 2013, but scouts see a big-bodied mauler with the strength and power to dominate in the run game. Medical concerns could lead a dramatic slide on draft day.
