The "Free Tom Brady!" holy war has exploded into the lower levels of professional baseball.
The Pawtucket Red Sox -- the longtime Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox -- announced Tuesday that the team will host "Free Brady Friday" on June 10. If your first or last name is "Tom" or "Brady" you get into the game for free.
Minor league baseball promotions are the best.
"Tom Brady is one of the region's most beloved athletes and public figures," said PawSox senior vice-president and general manager Dan Rea, via CSN-NE.com "This evening allows PawSox fans, so many of whom are Patriots fans, to show their support for him."
Not to be outdone, the Buffalo Bisons -- the Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays -- will hold their own Brady-centric promotion a day later. It is ... less supportive.
The Bisons -- or is it the Bison? -- are really going all out. Some more quirks to their evening:
» Buy-one, get-one free tickets to anyone that brings a "properly-inflated" football to be donated to area youth football programs
» Accepting "un-destroyed" cell phone donations for 'Cell Phones for Soldiers' charity
» A 12.5 (get it?) percent discount in the Bisons' gift shop for anyone that brings a Tom Brady jersey/t-shirt to add to the postgame fireworks display
» Again, I'll stress this is taken directly from the Bisons' release: "Scoreboard videos featuring some of sports' greatest cheaters, with special video tribute to Patriots' coach, Bill Belichick".
» From the release: "If you are named 'Tom' or 'Brady,' you will be allowed entrance into Coca-Cola Field for 'Keep Brady Suspended' Night, but will not be allowed to watch the first four innings of game one of the doubleheader. Please, no appeals."
There is a 98 percent chance Rex and Rob Ryan show up to this game and a 60 percent chance they orchestrated the whole thing.
