The Indianapolis Colts have stopped waiting for Vick Ballard to get back on the field.
The oft-injured running back -- who led the Colts in rushing as a rookie in 2012 -- was waived by the team on Tuesday. Ballard missed virtually all of the past two seasons with ACL and Achilles injuries.
The Colts hoped to get something out of Ballard this season, but he missed significant time in training camp with separate hamstring injuries. It was a modest surprise that Indy opted to keep Ballard on the 53-man roster, a decision the organization has since reconsidered.
Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said last week that it would be difficult to put a talented young player like Ballard on the street. The deed now done, we'll find out if Ballard can find a team not scared off by his medical records.
