Victor Cruz seems pretty calm about his contract situation. The New York Giants wide receiver will be a restricted free agent when the season ends and he's eager to sign a contract extension.
Cruz said it's all good, though.
"No, I'm not disappointed," Cruz told the New York Daily News. "I think we're still moving in the right direction. You know, it's a negotiation and everything's not going to happen the way you want it to. We're just going back and forth, and hopefully we get things squared away soon."
Cruz has 82 receptions for 1,040 yards and nine touchdowns heading into the team's regular-season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. He caught 82 balls for 1,536 yards and nine touchdowns during his sophomore season in 2011. His contract paid $540,000 this year -- and Cruz was voted to the Pro Bowl.
"I'm just being patient, man," Cruz said. "I'm gonna go enjoy this last game, hopefully enjoy this playoff berth. If now, enjoy the Pro Bowl and just relax a little bit."
It's understandable the Giants didn't want to extend Cruz's contract after 2011. He was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2010 and played just three games as a rookie. The Giants had to guard against him being a one-year wonder. Cruz has clearly outplayed his contract and should be rewarded handsomely in the near future.
