The Minnesota Vikings haven't been given any indication about Brett Favre's potential offseason surgery plans, a source with knowledge of the situation said Tuesday.
The quarterback is mulling whether or not to have what he deemed relatively minor ankle surgery to help him play in 2010. The Vikings aren't pushing him in any way to make the decision, according to the source.
If Favre has decided on the surgery, it hasn't been communicated to the team. Despite a recent report indicating that Favre wasn't planning to undergo the procedure, several sources believe he has yet to make up his mind.
If or when he does have the surgery, or retires, that announcement likely will come from Favre himself. The Vikings generally don't announce surgeries, according to a team spokesman. In the offseason, Favre occasionally will release statements or grant media interviews to address his future.
Favre's agent, Bus Cook, hasn't responded to inquiries about the quarterback's ankle or any decision on surgery.
