Perhaps Buffalo wasn't the last, best chance for Vince Young's career.
Young will work out for the Green Bay Packers on Monday, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported, via a source informed of the workout. Young had a great opportunity with the Bills last offseason, but he couldn't even beat out Tyler Thigpen for a spot behind Ryan Fitzpatrick.
The Green Bay Press-Gazette first reported the news of Young's workout.
The Packers' backup quarterback job is unsettled with Graham Harrell and B.J. Coleman splitting reps in training camp. Bringing Young in for a tryout is a sign that coach Mike McCarthy isn't overly confident in his group. Coleman struggled during the team's scrimmage on Saturday night.
Around The League spoke to Young in March after he worked out at Texas' Pro Day, and the 2006 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year was optimistic he would find an NFL job. But Young's only workout this offseason was with the Oakland Raiders, and he hasn't attracted much attention since April.
We've long believed that Young still could be a productive pro; it's easy to forget how effective he was early in his career with the Tennessee Titans. It's quite possible the Packers are just performing their due diligence, but here's to hoping that Young's tryout goes well.
With all due respect to Coleman, the Packers would be a lot more interesting with Young on the team.
