Vontae Davis faces music after 'Hard Knocks' debut

Every season of "Hard Knocks" features at least one player who isn't presented in a flattering light.

Miami Dolphins cornerback Vontae Daviswas that guy in Tuesday's season premiere of the popular HBO documentary series.

HBO cameras showed Davis being burned in coverage while admitting how exhausted he was to generally uninterested teammates. It was clear he made a poor impression with the new Dolphins coaching staff.

It provided some clarity as to why Davis has lost his grip on his starting cornerback job to Richard Marshall. Davis said Wednesday he didn't watch the show, but he figured something was up when his phone started buzzing after 10 p.m.

"Coach is supposed to be on you hard," Davis said, via The Miami Herald. "If he's not on you hard, I shouldn't even be out here. He wants me to be the best player I can be, and I want him to coach me hard."

Davis is referring to Dolphins defensive backs coach Lou Anarumo, who was captured by HBO cameras imploring the cornerback to give a better effort. Davis said he has improved his conditioning since the start of filming, an assertion that Dolphins coach Joe Philbin backs up.
