Walter Thurmond: I'm the best slot corner in league

Walter Thurmond spent the first three seasons of his career playing alongside Richard Sherman.

It appears Thurmond has brought some of Sherman's personality traits with him to the New York Giants.

"I'm the best slot corner in the league," Thurmond said at the kickoff of the Giants' offseason workouts on Tuesday, according to the New York Daily News.

After taking an informal poll among the other Around The League writers, Thurmond might be right. Other contenders for the title include Tyrann Mathieu (Cardinals), Brandon Boykin (Eagles), Chris Harris (Broncos) and Captain Munnerlyn (Vikings). Giants general manager Jerry Reese deserves a congratulatory pat on the back for landing Thurmond on a one-year, $3 million contract.

Thurmond's confidence extends beyond himself. The former Legion of Boom member believes the back end of the Giants' defense can be better than anyone -- including the Seattle Seahawks'.

"We have the potential to be the best secondary in the league," he said.

The Giants have plenty of work to do to knock the Seahawks off their perch, but there's no denying New York turned a position of weakness into one of strength. Thurmond, Prince Amukamara and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie form one of the most promising 1-2-3 punches in the league.

UPDATE: Thurmond's comments have, perhaps predictability, struck a chord with some of his contemporaries.

That's right, people. Legit. Slot. Heat.
