The Washington Redskins will keep their quarterback triumvirate in place for at least one more go-around.
The team is re-singing free agent signal-caller Colt McCoy to an one-year contract, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Media's Albert Breer reported Tuesday, per a source informed of the team's moves. ESPN first reported the news.
The deal will keep McCoy, Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins on the same roster after each saw time under the helm for coach Jay Gruden last season.
McCoy, 28, started four games in 2014. He led the Redskins to a Week 8 win -- their final victory of the season -- and three losses to close out a disappointing season.
The quarterback market was embarrassingly thin, yet McCoy's best option remained another stint in DC -- which tells you how most of the NFL views the signal-caller.
Still, the Redskins quarterback room remains a question heading into Gruden's second season. The coach preemptively announced that Robert Griffin IIIwould be the starter heading into the season during the NFL Scouting Combine.
But given Gruden's proclivity to play quarterback duck-duck-goose in 2014, eventually bailing from the pro-RGIII stance wouldn't exactly be a shock.
