So we've established that Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill is the man now. It remains uncertain what the rest of the depth chart will look like.
Matt Moore and David Garrard are scheduled to make $5 million combined (Garrard $2.75 million, Moore $2.25 million). With Tannehill the starter, it's not hard to argue that he needs only one relatively expensive veteran backup. It was suggested in the Palm Beach Post last week that the Dolphinscould reach an injury settlement with Garrard following his knee surgery.
It's a complicated decision because Garrard was on top of the depth chart before the injury. But the Post reported he was still on crutches Monday and The Miami Herald writes that Garrard won't be ready for the start of the season. He missed all of last season and has yet to take a hit. The Herald also points out that only two teams have less cap space than Miami.
It wouldn't be surprising if the Dolphins decided to keep all three quarterbacks, but it seems like an unnecessary luxury for a rebuilding team. There's plenty of reason to believe Garrard won't have much value to them, so they may not bother to keep him around.
