Week 4 of the college football season brought us highlights galore, some lovable mascots and a number of surprises that nobody could have predicted earlier this year. While we know who won and lost the games from the box scores, who really came out of Saturday able to hold their heads high heading into Week 5?
Winners
Amari Cooper and Lane Kiffin: The arrival of Kiffin in Tuscaloosa was mocked by many, but the former USC coach has the Tide offense rolling and Cooper looking like the best receiver in the country by a mile.
East Carolina: They might be the front-runner for the top "Group of Five" team and they have a one-game lead in the ACC over every other team in the conference thanks to a blowout win over North Carolina.
C.J. Beathard: Iowa's backup quarterback led a big-time second-half comeback at Pitt and helped keep Hawkeyes fans from rioting to fire Kirk Ferentz.
Melvin Gordon: He fumbled on his first snap ... and then proceeded to set a career high of 253 yards rushing and five touchdowns.
Old Dominion: The FBS newcomer picked up their third win of the season and first-ever Conference USA win.
Indiana: Are you kidding me? After losing to Bowling Green last week, the Hoosiers put together a last-minute drive to beat the defending SEC East champs at Missouri. Congrats to Kevin Wilson and company.
Nelson Spruce: Maybe the nation's most underrated receiver, Colorado's star offensive player caught 13 passes for 172 yards and a score in a win over Hawaii.
Kyle Whittingham: Utah's head coach has taken some shots over the Utes' play since moving to the Pac-12, but he picked up a huge non-conference win at the Big House and has a real chance at a bowl game in 2014.
Dan Mullen and Dak Prescott: The coach finally got a signature victory with Mississippi State and Prescott overpowered LSU's defense to the tune of 373 yards of offense.
Samaje Perine: Oklahoma survived a tough road test thanks to the true freshman, who just bowled over West Virginia all night.
Deshaun Watson: The Clemson freshman nearly pulled off the upset at the home of the No. 1 team in the country and did so looking impressive against a talented defense.
The Big Ten: No seriously, the Big Ten had a good day. Toss out Michigan's lackluster effort, the league went undefeated and picked up big Power Five wins against Miami, Missouri and Pitt.
Arizona: 36 points of offense in the fourth quarter. A redshirt freshman who threw for 520 yards and five touchdowns. And, oh yeah, winning on a Hail Mary. Doesn't get much more fun than that.
Losers
Will Muschamp: Not much you can say after that dreadful performance at Bryant-Denny on both sides of the ball.
Brady Hoke: Michigan looked bad on offense against a Power Five team once again, and the weather delay when the team was down 16 in the fourth was just an insult to an already-significant injury.
Virginia Tech: From national darlings after a win over Ohio State to national goats after their second straight loss. ECU is somewhat understandable, but Georgia Tech barely squeaked by Georgia Southern last week.
Chris Petersen: Washington trailed 14-0 at halftime to one of the worst FBS teams around -- Georgia State. The Huskies have not looked all that sharp on either side of the ball so far in Petersen's tenure.
South Carolina: Steve Spurrier called Saturday's win over Vanderbilt his "worst ever," and that should probably tell you all you need to know.
Ammon Lakip: Clemson's junior kicker missed field goals from 23 and 40 yards in a game that went to overtime. The shank near the goal line was especially bad.
Don Pellum: The new Oregon defensive coordinator has a ton of work to do after a terrible effort against Wazzu.
Cal, Washington State and Pac-12 refs: Cal gave up 36 points in the 4th quarter and lost on a Hail Mary, Washington State was denied a shot against Oregon thanks to a questionable call and the Pac-12 refs lived down to their reputation. Tough night out West.
