An incident that left Wisconsin running back Corey Clement with an injured hand two weeks ago has resulted in two citations of disorderly conduct for Clement, and the school is backtracking from a statement it released at the time.
Clement instigated a fight at his off-campus apartment on Nov. 8, throwing the first punch in an altercation involving several individuals, according to a police report cited by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. In the days following the incident, UW released a statement that indicated Clement was merely intervening in an altercation that had already begun. Wednesday, the school released a new version of events, which corresponded with the police report.
"We released a statement regarding Corey's involvement in the incident on Nov. 12 in response to false information that was circulating. That statement was based off of information that we had at that time. With the release of the full police report today, further details on the incident have come to light. Any disciplinary measures taken by UW head coach Paul Chryst relating to this incident are undetermined at this time and will be handled internally."
According to the report, two men and a women were cited for disorderly conduct as well.
A sports hernia has derailed Clement's junior season. The heir apparent to San Diego Chargers first-round pick Melvin Gordon at Wisconsin, Clement has missed eight games and has played in three. As a junior, he meets the NFL's requirement to apply for early entry into the 2016 NFL Draft, or he could return to Wisconsin for his senior season.
Wisconsin finishes its regular season Saturday against host Minnesota.
