Witten: I don't think Romo is retiring anytime soon

If anyone has the authority to talk about Tony Romo's future in Dallas, it's his BFF, Jason Witten.

The tight end wasn't in the mood to speculate on whether Romo has thrown his last pass in a Cowboys jersey. Witten certainly doesn't believe the quarterback is ready to hang up his cleats for good.

"I don't think he's planning on retiring anytime soon," Witten said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I wouldn't bet against him."

Witten was asked how much the 36-year-old Romo has left in the tank.

"That's for him to answer. I've said it before -- I certainly wouldn't bet against him in those situations. He would be able to answer that better than I can," Witten replied.

With Dak Prescott firmly in control of the Cowboys' future, the speculation about Romo's future in the NFL -- will he play? where will he play? will the Cowboys send him to a team of his choice? -- will overtake the offseason. For now, the Cowboys will ride the gravy train.

There is still a chance that a Prescott injury could fling Romo back into the ring. Unless that happens, Witten is positive the quarterback he's grown alongside for years will continue to do what's best for the team.

"The best thing I think for all of us here is not about one individual or anything, and I think that's what he said about Dak - having his back and Dak doing the same," Witten said. "That's when football teams come together. That's the thing I'm most proud of being a teammate and doing it for a long time, to see the friendship and brotherhood that can come be formed through that shared performance that Tony referenced."
