Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer ordered a pair of cheeseburgers from McDonalds this week on his way home but only got one. For him, this was the perfect metaphor; another kick in the gut as he tried to get his team over a 38-7 beatdown they suffered on Sunday.
"They probably did (know who I am)," Zimmer said, via ESPN.com. "That's probably why I only got one."
But McDonald's is a place for healing, and apparently they are now furnishing the entire Minnesota Vikings locker room with free burgers as they prepare for Thursday night's game against the Arizona Cardinals.
There's no word on whether the burgers officially arrived Wednesday ahead of their flight, or if Zimmer will have to wait until he gets home to have his reward. In a move that probably terrifies sports science nuts everywhere, there is a large portion of Vikings fans who would prefer to see those burgers go down after the game, and not right before.
Then again, there are tons of athletes who still run on McDonalds. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, for example, stops by his local joint every day for pancakes.
Whatever the routine, if it nets the Vikings a win and a break from this miniature slump, Zimmer will take it. The Vikings are currently projected as the fifth seed in the NFC with the Seahawks closing fast.
