Mike Zimmer continues to play coy about his starting quarterback.
As he did last week, the Minnesota Vikings coach said we would have to wait until game day to learn who will be calling the shots under center versus the Green Bay Packers.
"You'll have to wait 'til Sunday," he said.
When asked if he knew who would start, Zimmer replied: "No comment."
Shaun Hill started Week 1 as the Vikings knocked off the Tennessee Titans 25-16 in Nashville. The 36-year-old threw for 236 yards on 18-of-33 passing for a 77.3 passer rating and didn't turn the ball over.
While the Vikings' offense failed to score a touchdown, Hill was not a liability. With the Titans stacking the box to stop Adrian Peterson, Hill averaged 10.4 air yards per attempt in Week 1 (fourth-highest in the NFL). The veteran had 10 pass attempts of 15-plus air yards -- for comparison Teddy Bridgewater averaged less than six such throws per game in 2015.
Despite Hill's game managing in Week 1, many believe Minnesota will start Sam Bradford to open their shiny new stadium Sunday.
Count Mike McCarthy among those surmising Zimmer will turn to the player the Vikings gave up a first-round draft pick to acquire. The Packers coach told reporters on Wednesday in a conference call that he expects Bradford to get the start, but is preparing to face both quarterbacks.
Speaking on NFL Network's Up To The Minute Live on Wednesday, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Sam Bradford is expected to start this week.
When Zimmer was asked if McCarthy had a source telling him Bradford would get the call, the Vikings coach quipped: "I hope not in this building."
Bradford has been in Norv Turner's system less than a fortnight, so Zimmer could decide to ride Hill another week.
Eventually, Bradford will be the starter. Zimmer just won't tell us whether that will be Week 2 or down the road.
