2012 College Football Bowl Games

The Alabama Crimson Tide dominated the 2013 BCS Championship Game from start to finish, beating Notre Dame, 42-14 for their third BCS title in the last four years. Alabama running backs Eddie Lacy and T.J. Yeldon each cracked 100 yards, and quarterback AJ McCarron passed for four touchdowns in the game, played at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla. Notre Dame was making its first appearance in a national championship game since the 1988 season, but the Irish quickly fell behind 28-0 at halftime and never threatened.

Ryan Aplin threw for 213 yards and a touchdown, J.D. McKissic caught 11 passes for 113 yards and Arkansas State edged Kent State 17-13 to win the GoDaddy.com Bowl. Arkansas State's usually prolific offense struggled against Kent State, but the consistent Aplin-to-McKissic connection and a stingy defense was enough to help the Red Wolves to their first bowl win since joining the Football Bowl Subdivision in 1992. Bo Wallace threw three touchdown passes and Mississippi beat Pittsburgh 38-17 in the BBVA Compass Bowl to complete an impressive turnaround under first-year coach Hugh Freeze. Ole Miss finished with seven wins, taking a five-win improvement over its 2-10 finish in 2011. (AP Photo/Butch Dill)

Johnny Manziel tiptoed the sideline for a 23-yard touchdown on Texas A&M's first drive of the game. The Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback known as Johnny Football and the Aggies were just getting warmed up in the Cotton Bowl. There were plenty more highlights after that nifty run. In his first game since becoming the first freshman to win the Heisman, Manziel set a Cotton Bowl-record with 516 total yards and accounted for four TDs as the Aggies capped their first SEC season with a 41-13 win over Oklahoma. Oregon's DeAnthony Thomas raced 94 yards for a touchdown on the opening kickoff. The Ducks barely looked back after that. Triggered by Thomas' attention-grabbing return, Oregon raced past Kansas State, 35-17, at the Fiesta Bowl in what may have been coach Chip Kelly's final game with the Ducks. (Mark J. Rebilas/US Presswire)

Jeff Driskel's first pass of the Sugar Bowl was intercepted and returned 38 yards for a touchdown. It never got much better for heavily favored Florida in what was supposed to be the crowning game in a bounce-back season. The Gators could not slow down Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who threw for 266 yards and two TDs against the nation's No. 1 pass efficiency defense. The fourth-ranked Gators fell behind the Louisville Cardinals by 14 points midway through the first quarter and trailed by double digits the rest of the way, losing 33-23. Florida State stuffed Northern Illinois all-purpose threat Jordan Lynch en route to winning the Orange Bowl, 31-10. Senior fullback Lonnie Pryor, voted the game's outstanding player, ran for a career-high 134 yards and two scores in only five carries for Florida State. Senior EJ Manuel threw for 291 yards. The victory was a consolation prize for the Seminoles, who began the season with national championship hopes. They've won five consecutive bowl games, but the victory was their first in a BCS bowl since 2000, when they beat Virginia Tech for the national championship. (Alan Diaz/Associated Press)

Stepfan Taylor rushed for 89 yards and an early touchdown, Kevin Hogan passed for 123 yards, and Stanford's dominant defense shut out Wisconsin in the second half of a 20-14 victory in the 99th Rose Bowl. Usua Amanam made the decisive interception near midfield with 2:30 to play as the Pac-12 champion Cardinal won their first Rose Bowl since 1972. (Mark J. Terrill/Associated Press)

Dylan Thompson came off the bench to throw a 32-yard touchdown pass with 11 seconds remaining, giving South Carolina a 33-28 victory over Michigan in the Outback Bowl. Thompson replaced Connor Shaw during the winning drive, covering the final 43 yards after the Gamecocks' starter began the march from his own 30. (Chris O'Meara/Associated Press)

Aaron Murray threw five touchdown passes to set a Georgia bowl record, including two in the fourth quarter, as the Bulldogs beat Nebraska 45-31 in the Capital One Bowl. Murray shook off a pair of first-half interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, and passed for 427 yards - also a Bulldogs' bowl record -- against the nation's top-ranked passing defense. Behind huge interceptions early and late, Northwestern beat Mississippi State, 34-20, in the Gator Bowl and snapped college football's longest postseason losing streak. The Wildcats won their first bowl game since 1949, snapping a nine-game losing streak that was tied for the longest in NCAA history. Quentin Williams returned an interception 29 yards for a touchdown on the third play of the game and Nick Vanhoose set up a late touchdown with a 39-yard interception return. Clint Chelf threw three of Oklahoma State's five touchdown passes and the Cowboys shook off a disappointing Big 12 finish by dominating Purdue, 58-14, in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. The Cowboys, a year removed from a Fiesta Bowl win that capped the best season in school history, forced five turnovers and had another short touchdown drive after a 64-yard punt return from Josh Stewart. Jordan Rodgers -- younger brother of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers -- threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score as the Vanderbilt Commodores capped their best season in nearly a century by beating North Carolina State, 38-24, in the Music City Bowl. The Commodores finished 9-4 for their best record since going 9-1 in 1915, and it's only the third time the smallest and only private university in the Southeastern Conference has won as many as nine games in a season. Southern California was ranked No. 1 at the beginning of the season, and Matt Barkley was a strong contender for the Heisman Trophy. The year ended with Barkley on the sideline as the Trojans lost to Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl. Tevin Washington threw a touchdown pass and ran for another score to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 21-7 victory in front of a crowd of 47,922 at Sun Bowl Stadium. (Ivan Pierre Aguirre/US Presswire)

Catanzaro's kick set off a wild celebration on the field.

Trey Watts rushed for 149 yards, Alex Singleton ran for three scores and Tulsa beat Iowa State 31-17 in the Liberty Bowl, avenging a season-opening loss to the Cyclones. The Golden Hurricane (11-3) posted the second 11-win season in school history. Tulsa, which has the smallest enrollment of any Football Bowl Subdivision program, also finished 11-3 in 2008. Cody Journell kicked a 22-yard field goal on the first possession of overtime to help Virginia Tech beat Rutgers, 13-10, in the Russell Athletic Bowl. Michigan State labored through the first half before going on the longest drive in the school's bowl history, a 90-yard march capped by freshman Connor Cook's 15-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Burbridge in the third quarter. (Matt Kartozian/US Presswire)

David Ash threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes, the last a 36-yard strike to Marquise Goodman with 2:24 left, to give Texas a 31-27 comeback victory over No. 15 Oregon State in the Alamo Bowl. The Longhorns never led before Goodman scored his second touchdown on a deep post pattern, just a play after Texas converted a fourth-and-1 play to keep its chances alive. Taylor Kelly threw four touchdown passes and ran for a fifth score to lead Arizona State to its first bowl win in seven years, a 62-28 victory over Navy in the Fight Hunger Bowl. (Cary Edmondson/US Presswire)

Glasco Martin ran for three touchdowns, Nick Florence threw for two scores and ran for another, and Baylor overwhelmed UCLA, 49-26, in the Holiday Bowl. Lache Seastrunk rushed 16 times for 138 yards and one score for Baylor, which outgained UCLA 494-362. The Bears came in leading the nation in total offense with 387.7 yards per game. Baylor won its final four games and five of six. UCLA lost its final three. (Kirby Lee/US Presswire)

Brendon Kay threw for 332 yards and a Belk Bowl-record four touchdowns, and Cincinnati capitalized on Duke's inept play in the closing minutes to beat the Blue Devils, 48-34. Duke appeared to have the game in hand and was driving for the go-ahead score - and its first bowl victory since 1961 - but the final 80 seconds proved disastrous. With the game tied at 34 and the Blue Devils positioning themselves for a winning field goal, running back Josh Snead fumbled at the Cincinnati 5-yard line with 1:20 left and Bearcats defensive lineman John Williams recovered. (Chuck Burton/Associated Press)

David Fales completed 33 of 43 passes for 395 yards and two touchdowns as San Jose State completed a comeback season with a 29-20 win over Bowling Green in the Military Bowl. The Spartans finished 11-2 and are in the national rankings for the first time since 1975. They capped the year with a seven-game winning streak for their first 11-win season since 1940, a remarkable turnaround for a program that was 1-12 just two years ago. (Nick Wass/Associated Press)

Ryan Radcliff threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Cody Wilson with 5:11 remaining to give Central Michigan the lead, and Western Kentucky was stopped on fourth down when a field goal would have tied the game in the final minute, giving the Chippewas a 24-21 win in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl at Ford Field. Western Kentucky fell just short in its first bowl since joining college football's top tier in 2009. (Carlos Osorio/Associated Press)

SMU coach June Jones walked out of Aloha Stadium with another win, thanks largely to a disruptive performance by defensive end Margus Hunt that set the tone for the Mustangs' 43-10 win over Fresno State in the Hawaii Bowl. Hunt, the 6-foot-8 senior from Estonia with an 82-inch wing span, forced two fumbles that led to field goals and sacked Derek Carr for a safety as SMU built a 22-0 halftime lead and never looked back. (Marco Garcia/US Presswire)

Little Michael Frisina came up big for Boise State, kicking a 27-yard field goal with 1:16 left to give the Broncos a 28-26 victory over Washington in the Las Vegas Bowl. Frisina, who stands 5-foot-5, made the winning kick after Washington had taken the lead for the first time on Travis Coons' 38-yard field goal. Boise State sealed the win when Jeremy Ioane intercepted Joe Southwick's pass as the Huskies neared midfield. It was the third Las Vegas Bowl win in a row for the Broncos. (Kirby Lee/US Presswire)

Terrance Broadway passed for 316 yards and ran for 108, helping Louisiana-Lafayette repeat as winners of the New Orleans Bowl with a 43-34 victory against East Carolina. In charge nearly the entire way, Duke Williams and Nevada let the New Mexico Bowl spin out of control at the end. Matt Scott threw two short touchdown passes in the final 46 seconds and college football's postseason started with a wild one when Arizona recovered a late onside kick and rallied past the Wolf Pack 49-48. Nevada led 21-0 in the first quarter and was ahead 45-28 entering the fourth period. (Eric Draper/Associated Press)
