Best of 2012 NFL Scouting Combine
Be it during press conferences by NFL personnel or prospects, or during the workouts, the NFL Scouting Combine had its share of memorable moments. Here are a few from the week that was.

One year after he stood in the same exact room declaring the Jets would win the Super Bowl, coach Rex Ryan admitted what most of us already felt.
"Looking back, it was a huge mistake to make that guarantee" he said.
That's what you call Rex in rare form.

So, at first, it seemed like 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh was more than willing to talk about his former pupil Andrew Luck. But then things just got weird when a reporter kept pushing him for a money quote that, quite frankly, Harbaugh wasn't willing to give.
Why, you ask? Who knows? You try to get in the mind of Harbaugh, and tell me how that goes.

The Rams have all sorts of options with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, and new coach Jeff Fisher was certain to rule out at least one: No trade will involve quarterback Sam Bradford.

With rumors swirling that the Cardinals would be interested in Peyton Manning should he become available, it was inevitable that coach Ken Whisenhunt and general manager Rod Graves would get grilled on the topic. Neither man was interested in talking about it, though.

We waited and waited ... and waited some more for Andrew Luck to take the podium. Actually, we got word it would happen "in a few minutes." But then it took about an hour-and-a-half before the presumed No. 1 pick entered the room. It was well worth the wait.
Luck looked the part -- calm, cool and collected -- while answering questions about backing up Peyton Manning and why he wouldn't throw at the combine.

Robert Griffin III might have given the best news conference by a prospect at the combine -- ever. He was self-deprecating (he's 6-2 ... and 3/8, just so you know), funny and looked incredibly comfortable as the media asked him all sorts of questions -- from why he decided not to throw at the combine, to potentially competing for a starting job with Colt McCoy in Cleveland, and everything in between.
Truly a masterful performance on the part of RGIII.

Hey, if Penn State is "Linebacker U", then LSU is "DB U".
Or so said Morris Claiborne, who stated during his presser that he aimed to "take over" the combine, and then he pretty much followed through with a solid workout.

We heard prospects speak politically correct all week, and then there was Penn State's Devon Still.
Still had no qualms about declaring himself "hands down" the best defensive tackle in this year's draft. But did he go about proving it during the workouts? Debatable.

Robert Griffin III didn't throw at the combine, but he did wow teams with an outstanding time of 4.41 seconds in the 40-yard-dash. That's nothing to scoff at.

We already how great of a passer Andrew Luck is. But did anybody expect him to post numbers at the combine on par with that of last year's No. 1 pick, Cam Newton?

OK, so Justin Blackmon wasn't able to run the 40 because of a tender hamstring. But he still went out there and did some drills, including the gauntlet, which he dominated.

If there's one player who might've catapulted himself into the late first round, it's Stephen Hill. Never mind that the wide receiver played at Georgia Tech, a program not exactly known for its passing offense or producing NFL-ready wideouts. When you run at 4.36 seconds in the 40, somebody has their eye on you.

Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe can lay claim to making a statement at this year's combine. First, he posted a combine-best 44 repetitions in the bench press. Then, the next day, the massive 346-pounder ran the 40 in 4.98 seconds and displayed quickness and athleticism in all the drills.
Seriously, a diesel truck moving like a Mustang? That's dangerous.

Perhaps the biggest workout warrior of this year's combine was West Virginia defensive end Bruce Irvin. At 6-3 and 245 pounds, he ran 4.50 in the 40 and dominated the drills.
Considering the rise of Jason Pierre-Paul last season, somebody is going to reach for Irvin. No doubt.
