Countdown to the 2013 NFL Draft
NFL.com counts down 57 days to the NFL draft.

is the number of defensive players taken with the first overall selection since 2001. The Texans (with NFL Networks Charley Casserly as the GM) took DE Mario Williams with the first pick of the 2006 Draft, choosing him over RB Reggie Bush. Williams has 63.5 sacks in 7 NFL seasons and has made 2 Pro Bowls. Bush has posted one 1,000-yard rushing season and 48 combined TDs in 7 seasons. He has never made the Pro Bowl.

is the number of wide receivers that have been taken with the first overall pick in the NFL Draft: USC's Keyshawn Johnson in 1996 by the Jets and Nebraska's Irving Fryar in 1984 by the Patriots. Fryar would play 17 years in the league for four teams, catching 851 passes. Johnson, author of the book "Just Give Me the Damn Ball," played for four teams over 11 years and won Super Bowl XXXVII with John Gruden's Buccaneers.

is the number of kickers that have been selected in the first round in the common draft era (since 1967): Florida State's Sebastian Janikowski (17th overall by Raiders in 2000), Texas' Russell Erxleben (11th by the Saints in 1979), and Arkansas' Steve Little (15th by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1978). Janikowski has made 324-of-402 career kicks and tied the NFL record in 2011 with a 63-yarder at Denver. Neither Erxleben (made 4 of 8 career kicks) nor Little (13 of 27) were able to justify their draft position.

is the number of Hall of Famers selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1974 Draft, the most ever by one team in a single draft. They picked USC wide receiver Lynn Swann in the first round, Kent State linebacker Jack Lambert in the second round, Alabama A&M wide receiver John Stallworth in the fourth round, and Wisconsin center Mike Webster in the fifth round. The group won 4 Super Bowls together and accounted for 25 Pro Bowl selections (Webster 9, Lambert 9, Stallworth 4, Swann 3).

is the number of quarterbacks selected before Tom Brady in the 2000 NFL Draft. Marshall's Chad Pennington went 18th overall to the Jets, Hofstra's Giovanni Carmazzi went 65th to the 49ers, Louisville's Chris Redman went 75th to the Ravens, Tennessee's Tee Martin went 163rd to the Steelers, West Virginia's Marc Bulger went 168th to the Saints and Southwest Texas State's Spergon Wynn went 183rd to the Browns. Carmazzi -- drafted by Brady's hometown 49ers -- never played in an NFL game; Brady has taken the Patriots to five Super Bowls, winning three.

is the number of players from the 1983 NFL Draft inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame: John Elway, Eric Dickerson, Bruce Matthews, Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, Darrell Green and Richard Dent. All except Dent were first-round picks; Dent was selected in the 8th round (203rd overall). Since the merger, no draft has had more players end up as Hall of Famers.

is the number of draft picks the New Orleans Saints traded to the Redskins to move up and take Texas' Ricky Williams fifth overall in the 1999 draft (at the suggestion of Saints coach Mike Ditka). NFL Network's Charlie Casserly was the Redskins general manager at the time, and got two first-rounders (1999 and 2000), two third-rounders (1999 and 2000), a fourth-rounder (1999), a fifth-rounder (1999), a sixth-rounder (1999) and a seventh-rounder (1999). The Saints went 20-28 with Williams before trading him away to the Dolphins for four draft picks before the 2002 season. After several subsequent trades, the Redskins ended up with Champ Bailey, LaVar Arrington, Derek Smith and Lloyd Harrison as a result of the Williams trade. They went 10-6 in 1999 and won the NFC East, but wouldn't return to the playoffs again until 2005.

is the number of teams and rounds in the inaugural NFL draft, held Feb. 8, 1936 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Philadelphia. The first Heisman Trophy winner -- Jay Berwanger from the University of Chicago -- was also the first player ever taken in an NFL draft. Berwanger was drafted by the Eagles and then had his rights traded to his hometown Bears. He never played in the NFL because the team couldnt meet his salary demands ($25,000 for two years). Berwanger later wrote sports columns for the Chicago Daily News, coached, manufactured car parts and fought in World War II.

is the number of eventual Hall of Fame players selected in the 1964 NFL Draft, the most in any single year. The list: quarterback Roger Staubach, wide receiver Paul Warfield, running back Leroy Kelly, wide receiver Bob Hayes, linebacker Dave Wilcox, safety Paul Krause, defensive back Mel Renfro, halfback Charley Taylor, defensive end Carl Eller and tackle Bob Brown. Three NFL drafts since 1964 have produced zero Hall of Fame selections: 1986, 1991 and 1992 (excludes seasons after 1995, when many players are not yet eligible).

is the pick the Steelers used to select quarterback Ben Roethlisberger out of Miami of Ohio in the 2004 draft (behind Eli Manning and Philip Rivers). Roethlisberger went 13-0 in his rookie season and led the Steelers to the AFC Championship Game. The Steelers won the Super Bowl the next season. Also taken with the 11th overall pick: Michael Irvin, J.J. Watt, Patrick Willis, DeMarcus Ware, Dwight Freeney and Jay Cutler.

is the number of running backs selected ahead of Florida Atlantic's Alfred Morris in the 2012 NFL Draft. Morris was taken in the 6th round, 173rd overall after scouts had concerns over his speed (ran 40-yard dash in 4.67 seconds), his ball security, and the level of competition he faced (Sun Belt conference). Morris proceeded to rush for 1,613 yards - the 3rd-most by a rookie in NFL history.

is the number of players and picks the Cowboys received in the famous Herschel Walker trade of 1989, widely considered to have propelled the Cowboys to their 1990s dynasty. There were 18 players and picks involved in total on both sides of the deal - with the Cowboys ultimately getting draft selections that turned into running back Emmitt Smith, safety Darren Woodson, and defensive tackle Russell Maryland. Walker would play just two-and-a-half seasons for the Vikings - who failed to win a playoff game during his tenure - and never had 1,000 yards in a season with the team. The Cowboys would win 3 Super Bowls in 4 years from 1992-95, with Smith, Woodson, and Maryland making key contributions.

is the number of Hall of Fame quarterbacks that have been selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, which represents the most Hall of Famers, by position, in any round. The most recently enshrined 1st-round QBs are Troy Aikman (Class of 2006), Steve Young (2005), Dan Marino (2005), Jim Kelly (2002) and John Elway (2004). A couple more could join them in the coming years: Kurt Warner will be eligible in 2015 and Brett Favre will be eligible in 2016.

Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn sat alone in the green room (and then the commissioner's green room) for 15 picks after Adrian Peterson went 7th overall to the Vikings in 2007. Quinn was eventually selected 22nd overall in the 2007 Draft by the Browns. Quinn is 4-16 as an NFL starter, with 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions for the Browns and Chiefs.

is the pick the 49ers used to select Hall of Famer Jerry Rice in the 1985 Draft. Two wide receivers were picked before Rice, of Mississippi Valley State: Wisconsin's Al Toon (by the Jets) and Miami's Eddie Brown (by the Bengals). Brown actually had more receiving yards and touchdowns than Rice in his 1985 rookie season. Although Brown and Toon each had respectable careers, Rice went on to become the greatest receiver in NFL history (most receptions, receiving touchdowns, and receiving yards in NFL history).

is the pick the Dallas Cowboys used to select RB Emmitt Smith in the 1990 Draft out of Florida. Blair Thomas was the only running back selected before Smith (2nd overall by Jets out of Penn State). Thomas played 6 NFL seasons with the Jets, Panthers, Patriots, and Cowboys, rushing for a combined 2,236 yards - or 16,119 rushing yards less than Emmitt Smith. Thomas played in one career playoff game, while Smith played in 17 career playoff games and helped lead the Cowboys to 3 Super Bowl titles.

is the number of years it has been since a running back was selected first overall in the NFL Draft. The Bengals took Penn State's Ki-Jana Carter with the No. 1 pick of the 1995 Draft. Carter tore a knee ligament on the third carry of his first preseason game, and never fully recovered. He played for the Bengals, Redskins, and Saints, never rushing for more than 500 yards in a season. No running backs have gone first overall since.

is the number of players that have won the Heisman Trophy to be drafted 1st overall. Some found success at the NFL level, such as Earl Campbell, Jim Plunkett, Paul Hornung and O.J. Simpson, to name a few. Others, like Terry Baker (1963, L.A. Rams) and Angelo Bertelli (1944, Boston Yanks), never found true success in the pro game.

is the number of quarterbacks selected with the 1st-overall pick in the NFL Draft since 1967 when the AFL and NFL began a common draft. The next most-selected position with the 1st overall pick is a tie between running back and defensive end, with 7 selections apiece.
(Associated Press)

is the number of teams that passed over Aaron Rodgers in the 2005 Draft. The Vikings and Cowboys passed Rodgers over twice apiece - opting to go into the 2005 season with Daunte Culpepper (MIN) and Drew Bledsoe (DAL) at QB instead. Other teams that passed over Rodgers included his hometown 49ers (used 1st overall pick on Utah's Alex Smith), the Dolphins (2005 starter: Gus Frerotte), the Browns (2005 starter: Trent Dilfer), the Bears (2005 starter: Kyle Orton), the Buccaneers (2005 starter: Brian Griese), the Lions (2005 starter: Joey Harrington), and the Saints (2005 starter: Aaron Brooks).
(Adam Rountree/Associated Press)

is the number of career interceptions thrown by David Klingler, the first quarterback taken in the 1992 Draft by the Bengals (6th overall out of the University of Houston). Klingler went 4-20 as an NFL starter and is known as one of the all-time draft busts, with 16 TD and 22 INT in his NFL career. The next time the Bengals took a QB in the first round, the result wasn't any better. Cincinnati took Akili Smith out of Oregon with the 3rd overall pick in 1999 (5 TD, 13 INT in NFL career). The team went 52-124 between 1992 and 2002, before finally getting the QB selection right in 2003, when they took USC's Carson Palmer with the #1 overall pick (154 TD, 100 INT with Bengals from 2003-10).
Random sidenote: On April 15, 2012, it was announced that Klingler was elected as assistant professor of biblical studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary's Havard School of Theological Studies in Houston.

is the pick the Oakland Raiders used to select punter Ray Guy in the first round of the 1973 Draft out of Southern Mississippi (Brett Favre's alma mater). Guy is the only punter ever to be taken in the first round, and was selected well ahead of future Hall of Famer Dan Fouts (84th overall). Guy averaged 42.4 yards per punt in his NFL career, made 7 Pro Bowls, and was the first pure punter to be finalist for the Hall of Fame (though he has not yet been elected). The Raiders are also the last team to select a kicker in the first round, taking Sebastian Janikowski with the 17th overall pick in the 2000 Draft.
(National Football League)

is the pick the Bengals used to select the only two-time Heisman Trophy winner in college football history, RB Archie Griffin, in the 1976 Draft out of Ohio State. He was the sixth running back selected, behind Chuck Muncie (3rd overall), Joe Washington (4th), Mike Pruitt (7th), Bubba Bean (9th), and Lawrence Gaines (16th). Griffin never rushed for 700 yards in a season and had only three 100-yard rushing games at the NFL level.
(Associated Press)

is the number of career NFL starts for QB JaMarcus Russell, taken with the 1st overall pick in the 2007 Draft by the Raiders. In his last season at LSU, Russell threw for 3,129 yards, 28 TD, 8 INT and went off for 332 yards and 2 TD in the Sugar Bowl vs Notre Dame - including a 58-yard bomb to Brandon LaFell that caught the eye of Raiders owner Al Davis. Russell signed a 6-year, $61 million dollar contract with the Raiders ($32 million guaranteed). He would go 7-18 as an NFL starter, throwing 18 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. Russell weighed 265 pounds coming out of LSU. According to reports, he weighed as much as 320 pounds last year.

is the pick the Ravens used to select LB Ray Lewis in the 1996 Draft, their first draft as a franchise (after selecting Jonathan Ogden earlier in the round). In 17 seasons, Lewis earned 12 Pro Bowl selections, was twice named the Defensive Player of the Year, and is the only player in NFL history with 40+ sacks and 30+ interceptions. The 27th pick in the 1996 Draft was held by the Green Bay Packers, who had already written Lewis' name on a card preparing to make him their selection. Instead, the Packers selected tackle John Michels from USC. Michels played only two NFL seasons and appeared in only 24 games before knee injuries ended his career.

is the pick that the Miami Dolphins used in the 1983 Draft to select Dan Marino out of Pittsburgh. Marino was passed over by 22 teams, and went behind five other quarterbacks: John Elway, Todd Blackledge, Jim Kelly, Tony Eason and Ken O'Brien. Thinking Marino would never be available when the Dolphins pick came up, the team didn't even bother to work him out before the draft. "I never dreamed we'd get a shot at him," Head Coach Don Shula later said. When he was still available with the 27th pick, the Dolphins disregarded the rumors of Marino's recreational drug use and a subpar senior season (17 touchdowns, 23 interceptions) to select him. Over the course of 17 NFL seasons, Marino threw for 61,361 yards (2nd-most in NFL history) and 420 touchdowns (3rd-most in NFL history).

is the age of Brandon Weeden when he was selected in the 2012 Draft by the Browns - the oldest player ever taken in the first round of the common draft era (since 1967). At 28 years, 195 days on draft day, Weeden was already older than Aaron Rodgers without having ever played an NFL snap. However, he was not the oldest NFL player drafted in the modern era. That honor belongs to Ove Johansson - a Swedish kicker taken by the Houston Oilers with the 316th pick of the 1977 Draft (12th round). Johansson was 28 years, 231 days old when drafted. Johansson made only 1 of 4 field goal attempts for the Oilers in 1977, and never played again in the NFL.

is the pick the Vikings used to select Hall of Fame QB Fran Tarkenton in the 1961 Draft out of Georgia. The future Pro Football Hall of Fame QB was the 3rd quarterback selected in 1961, behind Norm Snead (2nd overall by the Redskins) and Billy Kilmer (11th, 49ers). Those three quarterbacks combined for 511 NFL starts (Tarkenton 239, Snead 159, Kilmer 113) and 690 touchdown passes (Tarkenton 342, Norm Snead 196, Kilmer 152). In his first NFL game, Tarkenton came off the bench to throw four touchdown passes and run for a fifth.

is the total number of rounds in each NFL Draft from 1943-48 and 1950-59 (25 rounds in 1949). During that span, the NFL grew from 8 to 12 teams. 360 players were selected in the 1959 Draft, but only one made the Pro Football Hall of Fame: cornerback Dick LeBeau, taken 58th overall by the Cleveland Browns out of Ohio State. LeBeau was subsequently cut by the Browns and signed as a rookie free agent by the Detroit Lions, where he racked up 62 career interceptions in 14 seasons. He would later become one of the great defensive coordinators in NFL history with the Bengals (where he created the zone blitz) and Steelers. LeBeau just finished his 39th season as an NFL coach, and has been the Steelers defensive coordinator since 2004 (second stint with team).

is the pick the Buccaneers traded up for (with the Broncos) and then used on Boise State RB Doug Martin in the 2012 Draft. Martin rushed for 1,454 yards as a rookie, 5th-most in the NFL. Nicknamed the "Muscle Hamster," Martin rushed for 1,299 yards and 16 touchdowns in his final season at Boise State. He measured in at 5-foot-9, 223 pounds at the 2012 Combine and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.55 seconds.

is the pick that the Chargers used in the 2001 Draft to select Drew Brees out of Purdue (1st pick of second round - there were 31 NFL teams in 2001). Since 1950, Purdue quarterbacks have compiled 865 NFL starts, more than any other school. Brees (169), Len Dawson (159), Jim Everett (153) and Bob Griese (151) are responsible for 632 of those. The only QB selected before Brees in 2001 was Michael Vick, who went 1st overall.

is the pick that Falcons used to select Brett Favre in the second round of the 1991 Draft (out of Southern Mississippi). Two quarterbacks were selected before Favre: Dan McGwire by the Seattle Seahawks (16th overall) and Todd Marinovich by the Raiders (24th). McGwire and Marinovich combined for 13 starts in their NFL careers and threw only 10 combined touchdowns. Favre made 298 NFL starts and threw an NFL-record 508 touchdowns.

.0 percent of all Super Bowls have been won by quarterbacks selected 1st overall (including Joe Namath, who went 1st overall to the Jets in the 1965 AFL draft). These QBs have 16 combined Super Bowl victories, broken down as follows: Terry Bradshaw (4), Troy Aikman (3), Eli Manning (2), John Elway (2), Jim Plunkett (2), Steve Young (1), Peyton Manning (1), and Joe Namath (1). Conversely, there have been 5 quarterbacks taken 1st overall in the common draft era (since 1967) that have never started a playoff game: Cam Newton (2011), Sam Bradford (2010), JaMarcus Russell (2007), David Carr (2002), and Tim Couch (1999).
(Associated Press)

Cam Newton accounted for 35 touchdowns as a rookie after being selected with the 1st overall pick in the 2011 Draft (21 passing, 14 rushing). It was the most ever for a rookie. In his only season at Auburn, Newton accounted for an astonishing 50 touchdowns (30 passing, 20 rushing), leading the Tigers to a BCS National Championship with a 14-0 record, and winning the Heisman Trophy. A physical freak, Newton measured in at 6-foot-5, 248 pounds at the Combine and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.59 seconds.

is the pick the 49ers used to select QB Colin Kaepernick in the second round of the 2011 Draft. Kaepernick was the sixth quarterback selected, behind Cam Newton (1st overall to Panthers), Jake Locker (8th to Titans), Blaine Gabbert (10th to Jaguars), Christian Ponder (12th to Vikings), and Andy Dalton (35th to Bengals). In his first season as a starter (2012), Kaepernick went 7-3 (including playoffs) and led the 49ers to the Super Bowl.

In the 2005 Draft, the Broncos used the 37th pick of the 3rd round (101st overall) to select Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett - ahead of Marion Barber, Brandon Jacobs, and Darren Sproles. Clarett was cut by the Broncos before the 2005 regular season and never played in an NFL game. He had previously tried to enter the 2004 Draft by challenging the rule that a player must wait three years after graduating high school to declare for the NFL. Courts ruled that Clarett could not enter the league after he had already surrendered his college eligibility by signing with an agent, so he was forced to wait a year. Clarett is currently a running back for the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League.

is the pick the Bears used to select LB Mike Singletary in the 1981 Draft out of Baylor. Four linebackers were selected before Singletary, in part because many viewed him as too small for the position (he stood only 6-feet tall): Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor out of UNC (2nd overall), E.J. Junior out of Alabama (5th), Hugh Green out of Pittsburgh (7th), and Mel Owens out of Michigan (9th). Singletary went on to record 1,488 career tackles, 12 fumble recoveries and 7 interceptions in his 12-season career. He made 10 straight Pro Bowls and was twice named the Defensive Player of the Year (1985, 1988). He was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998.

.0 was Ryan Leaf's passer rating in his rookie season. Leaf threw 2 touchdowns and 15 interceptions after being taken 2nd overall by the Chargers in the 1998 Draft. While it seems ridiculous in hindsight, scouts and analysts widely debated whether Leaf or Peyton Manning should go 1st overall to the Colts - with many favoring Leaf due to his arm strength, superior size, and upside potential. Leaf played only 3 NFL seasons, going 4-17 as a starter, with 14 touchdowns and 36 interceptions. Manning has played 14 NFL seasons and counting, going 154-70 as a starter with 436 touchdowns and 209 interceptions. Manning has won a Super Bowl title and an NFL-record 4 regular season MVP awards. Leaf was arrested in 2012 and pled guilty to burglary and drug possession charges. He is currently serving a prison sentence in Montana.

is the pick the Bills used to select Thurman Thomas in the 1988 Draft out of Oklahoma State. 7 running backs were picked ahead of him: Gaston Green (14th overall to LA Rams), John Stephens, (17th to Patriots), Lorenzo White (22nd to Oilers), Brad Muster (23rd to Bears), Craig Heyward (24th to Saints), Ickey Woods (31st to Bengals), and Tony Jeffery (38th to Phoenix Cardinals). Thomas rushed for 12,074 yards in his 13-season NFL career and played in 4 Super Bowls for the Bills before being selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007.
(National Football League)

is the number of total first round draft picks from the University of Florida in the common draft era (since 1967). The first was Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Steve Spurrier, taken 3rd overall by the 49ers in 1967. Spurrier played 10 unremarkable NFL seasons, contributing more as a punter than a QB. He would make a much more significant impact as a coach at Florida, where he helped guide the Gators to a national title in 1996 and had 14 first round selections in the NFL Draft (including Jevon Kearse and Fred Taylor). Another 8 first round picks would play under Florida coach Urban Meyer from 2005-10, including Tim Tebow and Percy Harvin. Florida has never had a 1st overall selection.

is the number of players from the SEC selected in the 2012 Draft, led by Alabama's 8 selections. Nine SEC players were selected in the first round: Alabama's Trent Richardson (3rd overall to Browns), LSU's Morris Claiborne (6th to Cowboys), Alabama's Mark Barron (7th to Buccaneers), South Carolina's Stephon Gilmore (10th to Bills), Mississippi State's Fletcher Cox (12th to Eagles), LSU's Michael Brockers (14th to Rams), Alabama's Dre Kirkpatrick (17th to Bengals), South Carolina's Melvin Ingram (18th to Chargers), and Alabama's Don't'a Hightower (25th to Patriots).

is the combined number of combined offensive tackles and guards selected in the first round of the last 10 NFL drafts - a group that includes Joe Thomas of Wisconsin (Browns), Jake Long of Michigan (Dolphins), Michael Oher of Mississippi (Ravens), Logan Mankins of Fresno State (Patriots), Ryan Clady of Boise State (Broncos), and D'Brickishaw Ferguson of Virginia (Jets). There have also been significant busts at those two positions: namely Robert Gallery (Raiders, 2004) and Jason Smith (Rams, 2009), both taken 2nd overall. Gallery failed to make an impact in 7 seasons with the Raiders (91 starts) and Smith lasted only three years with the Rams (26 starts) before being traded to the Jets for another underwhelming lineman, Wayne Hunter, before the 2012 season. Smith did not start a game with the Jets in 2012.

is the college uniform number worn by the 6th overall pick of the 1957 NFL draft, Jim Brown. At Syracuse, Brown was part of a line of notable running backs that wore #44, including Ernie Davis and Floyd Little. Wearing #32 for the Cleveland Browns, Jim Brown would go on to rush for 12,312 yards and 106 touchdowns from 1957-65. He retired in 1965 after only 9 years in the NFL. Brown also starred in lacrosse at Syracuse and is considered by some to be the best athlete of the 20th century. He remains the Browns' all-time leading rusher to this day.
(National Football League)

is the number offensive players selected before Joe Montana in the 1979 Draft. Montana went 82nd overall (3rd round) out of Notre Dame. The QBs that went ahead of Montana: Jack Thompson (3rd overall to the Bengals, Washington State), Phil Simms (7th to the Giants, Morehead State), and Steve Fuller (23rd to the Chiefs, Clemson). Thompson went 4-17 in the NFL and never started a playoff game. Fuller went 19-23 and was 1-1 in the playoffs. Montana went 117-47 in the regular season, 16-7 in the postseason, and led the 49ers to 4 Super Bowl titles.

is the number of combined wins by rookie quarterbacks selected in the 2012 Draft, an NFL record. Eight quarterbacks earned at least one win as a rookie starter (Andrew Luck, 11 wins; Russell Wilson, 11; Robert Griffin III, 9; Ryan Tannehill, 7; Brandon Weeden, 5; Nick Foles, 1; Kirk Cousins, 1; Ryan Lindley 1). Wilson proved to be the best draft value - winning 11 games and tying the rookie record for touchdown passes (26) after being selected with the 75th overall pick (3rd round) by the Seahawks out of Wisconsin.

As in Super Bowl XLVII (47)... This year's game featured two quarterbacks drafted outside the Top 15: Joe Flacco was taken 18th overall in 2008 out of Delaware and Colin Kaepernick was taken 36th in 2011 out of Nevada. The last Super Bowl to feature two QBs that were both drafted outside the Top 15 was Super Bowl XXXVIII (38) between the Patriots and Panthers (2003 season). Tom Brady was the 199th overall pick in 2000 out of Michigan; Jake Delhomme went undrafted in 1997 out of Louisiana-Lafayette.

is the pick the Oakland Raiders used to select Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end Howie Long in the 1981 Draft out of Villanova. Long had 84.0 career sacks, second-most ever by a Raider (Greg Townsend, 107.5). 27 years later, Howie's son Chris Long would be selected 2nd overall in the 2008 Draft by the Rams (out of Virginia). In five seasons, Chris has 42.0 career sacks, exactly half of his dad's total.
(Paul Spinelli/Associated Press)

is the number of players selected from non-FBS schools in the last two drafts. Most notably, CB Janoris Jenkins was taken with the 39th pick of the 2012 Draft by the Rams out of North Alabama (though he previously played for the University of Florida). Among the other famous non-FBS players in NFL history: Super Bowl MVPs Jerry Rice (Mississippi Valley State) and Joe Flacco (Delaware).

is the pick the Kansas City Chiefs used to select Pro Football Hall of Fame Linebacker Willie Lanier (class of 1986). Lanier is 1 of 8 players drafted in 1967 to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame: Bob Griese (4th overall), Floyd Little (6th), Alan Page (15th), Gene Upshaw (17th), Lem Barney (34th), Rayfield Wright (182nd) and Ken Houston (214th) are the others. It is tied for the 3rd-most Hall of Famers to come out of any single NFL draft. The most Hall of Famers to ever come out of a single class? We'll find out later in the countdown.
