Famous flip-floppers

This isn't the first time Brett Favre has kept us waiting to hear about his future. However, indecision isn't exclusive to the future Hall of Famer. Athletes and celebrities have been flip-flopping for years. (AP Photo/Morry Gash)

In June, Amanda Bynes announced she was done acting at 24. While most were shocked to learn that Bynes actually considered herself an actress, the short-lived retirement proved to be her best acting job yet. She unretired a month later, just in time to promote the release of a new movie. (AP Photo/Peter Kramer)

The third time proved to be the charm for Michael Jordan. After retiring two different times with the Bulls, "His Airness" decided to make a dramatic return in 2001 with ... the Wizards. Jordan spent two nondescript seasons in Washington before finally walking away for good in 2003. (AP Photo/David Zalubowski)

Cyclist Lance Armstrong made a dramatic comeback after being diagnosed with cancer in 1996. He won the Tour de France seven straight times from 1999 to 2005 and then retired. He returned for the event in 2009, finishing third. He said his 2010 Tour de France would be his last, and finished 23rd. (AP Photo/Christophe Ena)

During the 2003 season, pitcher Roger Clemens announced he would retire at the end of the year. Like his curveball changed direction, so did his decision. He signed with the Astros in 2004 and appeared to be done again after 2005. But somehow $12 million talked him into playing half a season for the Astros. The Yankees upped the ante a year later, giving him $18.7 million when he joined the team two months into the season. He hasn't pitched since, but never officially retired. (AP Photo/Kathy Willens)

Really any boxer could make this list, but Evander Holyfield fits the bill. He retired in 1994 due to a heart condition, yet returned to the sport a year later. After three straight losses from 2002-04, Holyfield took nearly two years to get back in the ring. He is currently still considering fighting as he closes in on his 48th birthday. Jay Leno ended his 17-year run as the "Tonight Show" host in May 2009. When ratings dipped with Conan O'Brien at the helm, Leno found his way back to the late-night TV gig less than a year later. (Paul Drinkwater/NBCU Photo Bank)

Soccer's biggest star, Pele, went with a slightly different path, opting for semi-retirement in 1972. The three-time World Cup winner decided to play full-time again when the New York Cosmos came calling in 1975. He spent three seasons in the North American Soccer League before walking away for good in 1977. (AP Photo/Bill Kostroun)

Ricky Williams is never predictable. He shocked fans by unexpectedly retiring prior to the start of training camp in 2004 because he wanted to see the world, adding he was "finally free." When the Dolphins asked for part of his signing bonus back, Williams reconsidered and decided freedom was overrated. He spent 2006 in the CFL due to a year-long suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy for a fourth time. He rejoined the Dolphins in 2007 and has got his career back on track the past two years. He says 2010 will be his last season. (AP Photo/Paul Abell)

Tennis legend Bjorn Borg might be best known for his long hair and headband, but he's waffled about more than his look over the years. With 11 grand slam titles to his name, he surprisingly retired in 1983. He stayed out of the game for eight years, but his comeback from 1991 to 1993 failed to produce much aside from more questionable fashion decisions. (AP Photo/Kurt Strumph)

Jay Z said "The Black Album" would be his last in 2003, but the hip-hop mogul has been pretty busy. Aside from releasing another album in 2006, he's also gone on tour and appeared on numerous other artists' albums. At least he was honest about the situation saying, "It was the worst retirement in history." (AP Photo/Chris Pizzello)

Nothing gets fans to pay for expensive tickets like a farewell tour. Barbra Streisand has pulled the trick so many times that fans considered suing her when she announced a series of performances seven years after her last farewell tour. (AP Photo/Dan Steinberg)

Reggie White also needed three takes. After making his name in Philly and winning a title in Green Bay, White first called it quits before the 1998 season. However, he changed his mind the next day and returned to the Pack. He retired again, sitting out the 1999 season, only to make one last stand with the Panthers in 2000. (AP Photo/Chuck Burton)
