Fantasy Stock Watch: Odell Beckham uncertain for Week 1
IT'S HERE! THE SEASON IS FINALLY HERE! No more scrounging to come up with taeks. No trying to glean the slightest bit of information from innocuous stories and tweets about players who may or may not find themselves on an NFL roster once the season actually begins. Instead, we're about to start playing real games. That actually count. With star players playing lots of plays. We made it, folks.
So ... Stock Watch, anyone?

I know it seems like we've been picking on Luck in this space over the last few weeks. And ... well, you're kinda right. But when one of the top quarterbacks in the game doesn't have a definitive timeline for getting back on the field, you darn well better believe that we're going to talk about it. Hey, Chuck Pagano ... maybe you should check on your guy and see if he can, y'know, throw a football. Just saying.

We all knew that Blount wasn't going to run for 18 touchdowns this year in Philly. The new question is whether he'll run for any scores at all with the Eagles. There's been plenty of scuttlebutt in Philadelphia as to what Blount's role in the offense will be ... or if he'll be on the roster at all. I could go on and on about what this means for Blount's fantasy draft value. Just know that it's all bad.

You hate to see someone elevated because of a season-ending injury. Alas, we've reached that stage with Hunt and the Chiefs. Spencer Ware's knee injury takes him out of the mix for 2017 and puts the rookie atop the running back depth chart in Kansas City. Ware's absence also means more work for Charcandrick West but it's Hunt who will make the biggest leap on fantasy draft boards because of this news.

A wise person once said that if you have two running backs you have none. Or something like that. So what does it mean when you have four who could potentially see touches? It means that you don't bother adding any to your fantasy roster until the very late rounds -- if at all. Pete Carroll isn't going to do us any favors with his "always compete" mantra. Let someone else deal with this headache.

I promise that Matt Harmon isn't making me write this. In an offense seeking another receiver to complement DeAndre Hopkins, Ellington started to flash late in the preseason. He was considered a deep sleeper last season in San Francisco before an injury prematurely ended his season. This could be the chance to fulfill 2016's promise in an offense needing help.

Much like Kareem Hunt, Wright gains in fantasy value because of a season-ending injury to a teammate. In this case, Cameron Meredith's torn ACL leaves a big void in the Bears' receiving corps. With Kevin White still trying to prove that he can stay healthy and produce in the NFL, Wright's veteran presence will be greatly welcomed in the Bears huddle. For your purposes, Wright might not rise above being a fourth receiver for your squad. But if there's a receiver in Chicago to target, he's the one.

This is the week when teams start floating trade rumors about players that they are considering releasing, in the hope that maybe they can get something in return for the player. Jermaine Kearse is in that boat. That's bad news for Jermaine Kearse. Maybe he gains fantasy draft value in a new location. But things aren't so great for him in Seattle right now.

It's not a huge surprise that Doctson didn't play in the preseason finale. But it is a little worrisome that Doctson was generally M.I.A. during the preseason -- especially after he appeared in just two games all of last season. Doctson will be on the roster but the talk in Washington suggests that they're not counting on him much in the short term.

Yep, I'm throwing fuel into the engine of the Kittle Hype Train. With Vance McDonald being traded to the Steelers, a spot has opened up for the rookie in the Niners offensive rotation. That's definitely a positive. Of course, there's a negative. The negative is that (and maybe you've heard this before) rookie tight ends are rarely fantasy relevant. Especially rookie tight ends in lackluster offenses.

After years of being a tough, productive running back, we might be reaching the beginning of the end for Forte. He's struggled with injuries all preseason and now is believed to be on the roster bubble. It's believable that someone will kick the tires on Forte if he is released by the Jets but the reality is that he turns 32 in December and has endured plenty of wear-and-tear. Father Time comes for us all. Matt Forte may have met his match.
