Fantasy "winners" after the draft
The 2020 NFL Draft is in the books, so we now have a much clearer picture of how all 32 rosters are going to look heading into training camp and the preseason (fingers crossed). And while the rookies now need to be evaluated for their individual fantasy value, owners also have to consider which veterans have been affected by their team's selections ... good or bad. Here's a look at the fantasy "winners" after the draft.

The Chargers did draft a running back, Joshua Kelley out of U.C.L.A., but he's not a real threat to Ekeler's status as the top option in the backfield. In fact, I think he could be a problem for Justin Jackson in terms of his touch share in 2020. Regardless, Ekeler is going to remain the top back and should once again be a PPR star in an offense that will have a new look with Tyrod Taylor projected to be under center.

There had been a lot of talk about the Jaguars trading Fournette, but that never came to fruition. Assuming he remains in Jacksonville, the former L.S.U. standout has very little competition in the backfield since the team didn't pick a runner in the draft. So while catching another 76 passes is unlikely, Fournette is a virtual lock to be the top touch man in the Jacksonville backfield. He remains a high-end No. 2 back.

Most fantasy owners out there were expecting the Falcons to grab a running back of the future in the draft. Instead, the team ignored the position all together and went with defenders with three of its first four picks. So, it looks like Gurley will have only Ito Smith and Brian Hill behind him on the depth chart. If his knee can hold up, Gurley is going to get as many touches as he can handle in Atlanta's backfield.

Carson is coming off an injured hip, and Rashaad Penny continues to rehab what was a nasty knee injury, so there were some out there who believed the Seahawks could draft a running back. They did, DeeJay Dallas, in the fourth round ... but he's not seen as real competition for one of the top two spots on the depth chart. Assuming Carson can come back and be the same player he was in 2019, he'll be a fine No. 2 runner.

The Steelers did draft a running back, Anthony McFarland out of Maryland, but he is seen as more of a change-of-pace back and not a threat to Conner's starting job. That's good news for the Pittsburgh product, who will look to prove his worth during what is a contract year. While staying healthy will be the real key to just how much Conner will help fantasy fans in 2020, his touch share seems safe at this point.

The Niners traded Matt Breida to the Dolphins and didn't draft a running back, so Mostert's spot atop the depth chart seems pretty secure. Sure, Tevin Coleman and Jeff Wilson will remain in the mix, but I still see Mostert as the unquestioned top fantasy option in this backfield. He proved his worth last season, usurping Coleman for the top spot on the depth chart and not relinquishing it. Mostert is now a more attractive RB2.

Prescott is a huge winner after the draft, as the Cowboys added CeeDee Lamb in the first round to an arsenal of weapons that already included Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup. The Cowboys also landed Tyler Biadasz, who figures to take over at center for the retired Travis Frederick. Prescott, who was the No. 2 fantasy quarterback a season ago, slides in as the QB3 for me heading into 2020 drafts.

The Dolphins were expected to draft a running back to compete with Howard for the top spot on the depth chart, but it didn't happen. Instead, the Fins traded for veteran Matt Breida. So, while Howard did lose some luster it isn't as severe as projected. In fact, I like Howard as the early-down and goal-line back for Miami next season. While Breida will get his share of the work, Howard is looking like the top back.

As if Brady needed any more weapons besides Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Rob Gronkowski, O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate, the Buccaneers gave him another one in the form of Ke'Shawn Vaughn out of Vanderbilt. More importantly, Tampa Bay improved its offensive line with the selection of Iowa OT Tristan Wirfs with the No. 13 overall pick. Brady is now back in the mix as a potential No. 1 fantasy quarterback.

Jones is one of my favorite sleepers heading into next season, and the Giants made some moves to protect their young quarterback. New York took OT Andrew Thomas with the No. 4 overall pick, and then grabbed OT Matt Peart out of UConn in Round 3. The G-Men would also take OG Shane Lemieux out of Oregon in the fifth round, so three of their first five picks were made with the goal of making Jones' life easier in 2020.

The Browns have done everything (and I mean everything) to help Mayfield put last year behind him and thrive in 2020. The team had already bolstered its offensive line with the addition of OT Jack Conklin, but then it added another OT in Jedrick Wills out of Alabama. Cleveland also grabbed one of the better tight ends in the class, Harrison Bryant, to go along with new starter Austin Hooper. Mayfield could be a late steal.

For some reason unbeknownst to NFL and Packers fans alike, the team didn't draft a single wideout to help boost the offense. Instead, Green Bay took Aaron Rodgers' future replacement in Jordan Love and a running back (what?) in A.J. Dillon. On the bright side, this leaves Lazard with very little competition to be the No. 2 receiver opposite Davante Adams. He has the potential to become a WR3/WR4 next season.

The Chiefs were rumored to have some interest in a wide receiver in the draft, but the team instead passed on the position altogether. That's good news for Hardman, who won't have any added competition in his quest to take the next step to fantasy stardom.

Rivers has seen his value rise as a member of the Colts, as he'll now play behind one of the league's best offensive lines. It doesn't hurt that the team also drafted a pair of weapons in Jonathan Taylor and Michael Pittman, who should help Rivers in 2020.

The Dolphins didn't take a single pass catcher until the final round of the draft (Navy's Malcolm Perry), so Gesicki's path to more targets and an increased role in the offense hasn't been hindered. He's still one of my favorite tight end sleepers.

The draft was like Christmas for Lock, who now has Jerry Jeudy, K.J. Hamler and Albert Okwuegbunam in an arsenal that already included Melvin Gordon, Courtland Sutton and Noah Fant. If Lock can take the next step in his development, watch out folks.

The Falcons went with a heavy defensive strategy in the 2020 NFL Draft, failing to pick even one offensive skill position player. That's great news for Hurst, who figures to set a career-high in targets in the absence of Hooper next season.

The Raiders added speed demon Henry Ruggs, fantasy favorite Bryan Edwards and a Swiss Army knife of sorts in the versatile Lynn Bowden in the draft. Carr will have to push the ball downfield more often (big question), but he's in a better spot to succeed.

The Redskins didn't draft a quarterback and will instead roll with Haskins as their top man in 2020. While I'm not a huge fan of his from a fantasy perspective, he does have more value as the projected (and unquestioned?) starter for Ron Rivera.

Pick your slogan ... "Tank for Trevor" or "Lose for Lawrence." Regardless, the P-Men had multiple chances to draft a quarterback but didn't. That leaves Stidham as the favorite to start next season, solidifying his late-round value in two-quarterback leagues.
