Fantasy Winners and Losers
We all want to be winners. Some of us aren't so lucky. The same applies to the players fantasy owners are counting on to lead them to glory every week. For every big Cam Newton performance, there's a Chris Johnson letdown. Now that we're wrapping up Week 1, let's take a look at the guys who delighted and disappointed.

How is this for a debut - Newton led all fantasy quarterbacks on Sunday (30.68 points in standard scoring leagues). He did it in the air, he did it on the ground. Fantasy enthusiasts want to know if he can do it against the Packers.

You can always grab a quality fantasy quarterback later in drafts, but those counting on Roethlisberger were disappointed in Week 1. Roethlisberger had only 6.10 fantasy points - an amazing stat considering that he did throw a touchdown against the Ravens.

Tolbert thwarted fantasy enthusiasts who invested heavily in Ryan Mathews in 2010 by taking away touchdowns. And Tolbert did not miss a beat in Week 1, leading all fantasy runners with 27.30 points. And good news for those who saw Tolbert limp off the field - he is expected back in Week 2.

The Buccaneers revealed recently that they were going to the dreaded running back by committee with Earnest Graham substituting for Blount on third down. What happened to first and second down on Sunday? Blount had just 1.50 fantasy points.

Let this be a lesson to always play your fantasy studs. Rice was the No. 1 running back in my initial rankings and he finished second among fantasy runners with 26.90 points against the rival Steelers. Some feared his matchup, but he proved ready for the Steel Curtain.

Still waiting for Greene to assert himself as the top runner for the Jets? Well, keep waiting. Greene managed just 3.30 fantasy points against the Cowboys, and it was LaDainian Tomlinson who looked like the better runner on Sunday night.

Somebody had to be catching all of those passes from Newton, right? Smith showed that he still has some fight left in him, rolling up 29.80 fantasy points. But seriously, how does Smith always seem to get so wide open?

Many fantasy enthusiasts had high-hopes for Maclin, despite the fact that he missed most of the summer with an illness. Maclin still looked rusty in Week 1, catching just one pass for 20 yards to register a meager two fantasy points.

The enigmatic Britt was passed over in many fantasy drafts by those who feared he was going to be suspended for part of the season. Britt will not be suspended, and he took advantage of the Jaguars on Sunday, scoring 25.60 fantasy points.

A full season out of Jackson seemed like a boon for fantasy owners in 2011, but that will have to wait at least a week. The Chargers were slow out of the gate (surprise) and Jackson had just 3.10 fantasy points. But this should just be an aberration.

The Bills' blowout win shocked the real football world, and a number of fantasy enthusiasts were left asking, "Who is Scott Chandler?" after he rolled up 18.30 fantasy points. But you might want to temper expectations until you see more consistency from the big man.

Indulge me on a personal story, but Cook was one of my preseason sleepers at the tight end position, and well, he kept sleeping in Week 1. Cook managed 0.70 fantasy points, and he should remain deep on your bench in fantasy leagues.

Akers was a new addition to the 49ers, but he provided the same consistent fantasy production that many of us have come to love in Week 1. Akers was automatic, contributing 15 fantasy points, and a good value for those who scooped him up on the waiver wire or late in drafts.

Well, this was a horrible way to start your season, being injured on the very first play of the game. The fact that the Vikings scored on a kickoff return was the insult added to the injury. Kaeding had no fantasy points.

Ginn had two returns for touchdowns to give the 49ers 24.00 fantasy points. Even without the returns, the 49ers were putting up pretty good numbers shutting down the Seahawks. Seattle is the team to match your defense against this coming season.

The Steel Curtain? Hardly. Pittsburgh's defense actually cost you points in Week 1. But don't panic and drop the Steelers just yet. A start against those Seahawks should get you the points that you are expecting.
