High-risk/high-reward fantasy players for 2015
Fantasy football, like high finance, is all about managing risk. Can you find the best production while limiting your potential exposure? Of course, the nature of football is that it's impossible to completely avoid risk. In fact, sometimes it makes sense to take a gamble on a high-risk player if you believe that player offers a potentially big reward. To help aid the bold among us, here's a list of players who combine high risk with high rewards

Manning has been a primetime fantasy player for nearly the entirety of his career, but at the end of last season, we saw The Sheriff misfire a bit more often. At age 39, it's fair to wonder if Father Time is on the verge of claiming another victim. But it's also hard to look at all the weapons around Manning in the Denver offense and not believe that he can once again be a top-five fantasy quarterback.

When it comes to the red flags surrounding Murray this season, where do we begin? Is it the 449 touches he had last season? Or maybe his past injury issues? Perhaps it's the specter of Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles waiting in the wings to take some of his touches. Certainly all of those things have conspired to drop Murray to the second round of most drafts, but you're also looking at a player who has averaged nearly five yards per carry in his career and topped 1,400 scrimmage yards with double-digit touchdowns in each of the last two seasons. Not to mention that he's running behind one of the better offensive lines in the league. The potential for good numbers still exists for Murray.

Nothing lasts forever ... not even Beast Mode. In the last four seasons, no player in the NFL has had more touches than Marshawn Lynch. That only increases fears that a breakdown is coming. Add to it that Jimmy Graham has now taken up residence in Seattle and Lynch could see some of his red zone opportunities drying up. But after four seasons of being one of the league's most productive backs and the centerpiece of one of the NFL's run-heaviest offenses, are you ready to doubt Beast Mode? Didn't think so.

After being a near-consensus No. 1 overall fantasy pick in 2014, McCoy was a disappointment. Fantasy enthusiasts were even more concerned when Shady was traded away from the efficiency of the Eagles offense to the slightly less capable Bills attack. Loaded with quarterback issues and saddled with offensive line troubles, Buffalo isn't exactly an offensive juggernaut. But the upside for McCoy is that with Rex Ryan's "ground and pound" mentality, there should be plenty of touches available for the veteran running back. As a fantasy enthusiast, opportunity is really all you can ask for from your players.

Jimmy Graham is in Seattle. Kenny Stills took his talents to South Beach. Mark Ingram got paid and the the Saints added offensive line help. All these signs point toward Drew Brees winging the ball a little less frequently than he has in the past. The veteran's decreasing yardage totals combined with some elevated interception numbers -- he's thrown 17-plus picks in two of the past three seasons -- could make for some nervous weeks. The good news? Brandin Cooks looks ready to break out this season and Brees is still one of the better quarterbacks in the league. Just don't expect video game numbers.

There's no doubt that the Colts' leading pass-catcher is going to be a fantasy stud, right? Right? After all, he posted 1,345 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 2014 -- good enough to finish just outside of the top 10 among fantasy wideouts. But that was also on a team that didn't have Andre Johnson, Frank Gore or Phillip Dorsett ... not to mention the tight end duo of Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen. As long as Hilton gets a large slice of the pie, he'll be okay. But you have to wonder if there are just too many mouths to feed in the Colts offense.

Last season, I was unabashed with my fantasy man crush on Allen. That crush was only partially rewarded by a player who finished 13th at his position, mostly thanks to his eight touchdowns. The problem is that Allen was well down the pecking order when it came to targets. That's the bad news. The worse news is that he's plagued by the same potential problem of there being too many options in his passing game. The upside is that Allen has been a good red zone target in his brief career. If that continues, there's still some upside for the tight end.

Last season, Benjamin was considered a project yet he still managed to rack up more than 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns. But a deeper look at his numbers showed that the rookie was best in garbage time. Benjamin posted about 20 percent of his yardage and nearly half of his touchdowns with the Panthers trailing by 20 or more points. That's a hard thing to count on week in and week out. Certainly, there's an expectation that Benjamin has improved with a year of experience under his belt, but if there's a wideout primed for a sophomore slump, he could be the one. And we didn't even mention that he just sprained a knee in training camp, too.

For the first time in his career, Thomas will be a full-time starter outside of the loving fantasy embrace of Peyton Manning. That alone is reason enough to drop the tight end down in your draft rankings. But a hand injury that will keep him out of the entire preseason is even more cause for alarm. However, it's not all doom and gloom for Thomas. He should be the top red-zone target for Blake Bortles and could still be a top-five option at a position that hasn't shown much depth in recent seasons.

Sammy Watkins is a really, really talented football player. Unfortunately it's hard to say the same about his quarterbacks. Whether it's Tyrod Taylor, Matt Cassel or EJ Manuel, there are too many questions with the guys throwing the football to truly be able to rely on Watkins. The upside is that if Rex Ryan can get his quarterback quandary figured out, there's little doubt that Watkins is going to be the Bills receiver to target. Alas, when will that be?
