Dorsett set a record that will never be broken when he raced 99 yards for a touchdown against the Vikings on Monday Night Football. A couple of side notes -- the Cowboys had only 10 players on the field and the call was originally for fullback Ron Springs to carry the ball.

The Twins won only 85 games, but it was enough to capture the AL West title. They shocked the Detroit Tigers in the ALCS and went on to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals (who were without Jack Clark) for the club's first World Series title in Minnesota. Frank Viola was selected World Series MVP.

NBA basketball returned full-time to Minneapolis for the first time since the Lakers left in 1960. During the T-Wolves' first game in the Metrodome, Michael Jordan dropped 45 points and the Chicago Bulls spoiled their home debut. The T-Wolves got their first win two nights later against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Metrodome's unique playing surface gave the Twins one of the best home-field advantages in baseball. Minnesota took all four home games to defeat the Atlanta Braves in seven games. MVP Jack Morris pitched 10 shutout innings and Gene Larkin's RBI single in the 10th inning scored Dan Gladden to end Game 7.

The Washington Redskins dominated the Buffalo Bills to win their third Super Bowl title, 37-24. Mark Rypien was selected the game's MVP. This was also notable for being the Bills' second consecutive Super Bowl loss, and for the embarrassment of Thurman Thomas, who couldn't find his helmet to start the game.

Duke won its second consecutive NCAA title, knocking off Michigan's famed Fab Five, the recruiting class that included future NBA standouts Jalen Rose, Chris Webber and Juwan Howard. Michigan, of course, would later be forced by scandal to vacate all wins from the tournament.

The Vikings took a chance on Moss in the 1998 NFL Draft, and he immediately paid off. He hauled in two incredible touchdown receptions in a 31-7 win over the Buccaneers in Week 1 to kick off a 15-1 season.

The Vikings' 15-1 season ended in heartbreak as the Atlanta Falcons came to the Metrodome and took the NFC crown with a 30-27 overtime win. Vikings kicker Gary Anderson had his first missed field goal of the season to give the Falcons a chance to force overtime.

Ripken ended his 1999 season on the disabled list, just shy of 3,000 hits, but he finally reached the milestone during this game with a single off Hector Carrasco (it was his third hit of the game). Ripken joined Eddie Murray and Dave Winfield as players to reach the mark at the Metrodome. Frank Thomas hit career home run No. 500 at the venerable venue.

Duke won another NCAA hoops title in Minnesota, this time knocking off Arizona. Seriously, this should be reason enough to raze this building.

Favre set an NFL record with the Packers with 421 career touchdown passes when he connected with Greg Jennings on a 16-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.

The Chargers' Cromartie fielded a short field-goal attempt by Ryan Longwell and set an NFL record when he returned it 109 yards for a touchdown. The Vikings, however, would go on to win the game, 35-17.

The Vikings snapped a three-year playoff drought in 2008. One of the highlights of the season was Berrian's 99-yard touchdown reception from Gus Frerotte in a 34-14 win over the Bears in Week 13.

Favre, the longtime Packers legend, sparked controversy by joining the rival Vikings. He won over any remaining holdouts in this game, throwing a 32-yard touchdown pass to Greg Lewis in the closing seconds for a dramatic 27-24 win.

A snowstorm caused the Metrodome roof to collapse late in the 2010 NFL season. Damage forced the Vikings to play one game at Ford Field in Detroit and a second outside, at the University of Minnesota, to close the season.
