Mind-blowing stats for the Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears' history is full of legendary names, but where does Matt Forte fit in? Find out what the numbers say with these mind-blowing stats.

The Kansas Comet, Gale Sayers, crashed into Chicago in 1965 and exploded for a rookie-record 22 touchdowns (14 rushing, 6 receiving, and 2 returning). Sayers punctuated his rookie performance in the penultimate game of his rookie season, tying the NFL record with 6 touchdowns against the 49ers. Sayers became the only player in NFL history to rush for 4 touchdowns, catch a touchdown, and return a punt for a touchdown in a single game.

Is Walter Payton the greatest running back in NFL history? Well, his 10 seasons with at least 1,200 yards rushing are more than any other player. He also had 77 career 100-yard games, which ranks second all-time behind only Emmitt Smith (78). Payton's 16,726 rush yards are also second to Emmitt Smith (18,355).

The Bears-Packers rivalry is the oldest in all of football, and the Bears lead the series 92-90 with 6 ties. However, the Bears haven't fared well at Lambeau Field - in 56 games at Lambeau they have had only one 300-yard passer. In a Week 11, 1995 shootout, Erik Kramer completed 23 of 38 passes for 318 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception. The Bears lost to the Packers 35-28. Some of the QBs who have not thrown for 300 yards at Lambeau Field include Jim McMahon, Jim Harbaugh and Jay Cutler.

Matt Forte ended the 2014 season with 102 receptions, which set the all-time the record for receptions by a running back in a single season. There were only 3 players in the NFL who finished 2014 with more receptions than Forte. Le'Veon Bell was the next closest running back with 83 receptions. In 2014, Forte became only the 3rd Bears player to finish with 100 or more catches in a season (Brandon Marshall caught 118 in 2012 and 100 in 2013, Marty Booker caught 100 in 2001).

The 1985 Super Bowl champion Bears defense is often talked about as the greatest in NFL history, featuring Hall of Famers Richard Dent, Dan Hampton, and Mike Singletary and future NFL head coaches Jeff Fisher, Ron Rivera, and Leslie Frazier (along with Singletary). In the playoffs that season, the Bears outscored their opponents by 81 points - the 3rd highest differential all-time - and allowed only 10 points, the fewest in NFL postseason history (min. 3 games).

While Ditka's 85 defense gets all the attention, the '84 and '86 defenses were equally as dominant. In 1984, the Bears defense, coached by Buddy Ryan, set an NFL record with 72 sacks - a mark that still stands 30 seasons later. The 1986 defense was statistically more impressive than the 1985 squad in two major areas - allowing fewer yards and fewer points. The most points allowed by one of those teams was 248 by the 1984 Bears, which translates to 15.5 points per game.

The Bears own the NFL record for most seasons leading the league in rushing, accomplishing the feat in 15 seasons. They have led the league more than twice as many times as any other team (the Bills are second with 7 seasons). On the other side of the ball, the Bears also rank first with 11 seasons allowing the fewest rushing yards. In 1942, the Bears defense allowed 519 rush yards - the fewest ever in a season - en route to a perfect 11-0. Last season the Bears allowed more rush yards in their 6 games within the NFC North (634).
