Mind-blowing stats for the Heisman Trophy
College football's top prize will be awarded on Saturday. But does a Heisman Trophy predict NFL success? Find out with these 10 mind-blowing stats for the Heisman.

In Week 1, the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner -- Jameis Winston -- and 2014 Heisman winner -- Marcus Mariota -- made their respective NFL debuts against one another. This was the first matchup of the No. 1 and No. 2 overall picks both starting at quarterback in the first week of their rookie seasons. In Week 2, Mariota faced 2012 Heisman winner Johnny Manziel. Mariota became the first Heisman winning quarterback to ever face opposing Heisman winning quarterbacks in consecutive starts, much less his first two career starts.
Winston, meanwhile, is one of 20 Heisman winners to be selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft.

Marcus Mariota became the first player since 1960 to record a perfect passer rating of 158.3 in his NFL debut (minimum of 14 pass attempts). Mariota completed 13 of 16 passes for 209 yards and four touchdowns in the Tennessee Titans' 42-14 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2015 season opener. Mariota also became the second rookie since 1960 to throw four touchdown passes in his debut, joining Fran Tarkenton, who did so in 1961. All four of Mariota's touchdown passes came in the first half, making him the first rookie in NFL history to accomplish the feat.

Seventy-eight players have won a Heisman Trophy. Fifteen of those players have never played one game in the NFL, including the first Heisman Trophy winner, Jay Berwanger. Fifteen Heisman winners went undrafted in the NFL, most recently 2003 Heisman winner, Jason White of Oklahoma.

As a running back at Ohio State, Archie Griffin became the only player to win the Heisman Trophy twice. Heisman winner Tim Tebow's 12 NFL rushing touchdowns are nearly twice as many as Griffin's seven, and Heisman winner Mark Ingram's 26 rushing touchdowns are nearly four times as many Griffin's mark. Charles Woodson, a defensive player, has scored more NFL touchdowns (11 interception return touchdowns, two fumble return touchdowns) than Griffin. Twenty Heisman Trophy winners had more career rushing yards than Griffin's total of 2,808 in the NFL, including Ron Dayne (3,722) and Cam Newton (3,047).

Heisman Trophy winners have combined for nine Super Bowl wins. Jim Plunkett and Roger Staubach are the only Heisman Trophy winners to win multiple Super Bowls (two each).

Five teams in NFL history have featured three Heisman Trophy winners on the same roster, and four of those teams were the Raiders. The 1988, 1989 and 1990 Los Angeles Raiders featured Marcus Allen, Tim Brown and Bo Jackson. The 1998 Oakland Raiders featured Tim Brown, Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson. The only non-Raiders team to contain three Heisman winners was the 1970 Chiefs, with Billy Cannon, Mike Garrett and John Huarte.
Despite the Raiders collecting Heisman winners, just seven games in NFL history featured four Heisman Trophy winners. The last was Week 15 in 1998, when the Raiders met the Bills. 1984 Heisman winner Doug Flutie quarterbacked the Bills to a 44-21 victory over that Raiders team that featured Brown, Howard and Woodson.

How many Pro Bowl selections did former Heisman Trophy winners receive? 106. Barry Sanders leads the way with 10.

Three Heisman Trophy winners played a professional team sport other than football. Vic Janowicz and Bo Jackson played Major League Baseball, and Charlie Ward played in the NBA. Another Heisman winner, Herschel Walker, competed for the U.S. on the 1992 Olympic bobsled team and more recently competed in MMA. Johnny Manziel was drafted in the 28th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres but has not played professional baseball.

Which Heisman Trophy winner had the most career passing yards in the NFL? Not Roger Staubach (fourth), Jim Plunkett (third) or Carson Palmer (second). It's Vinny Testaverde, who had 46,233 passing yards -- ninth-most in NFL history -- over the course of 21 seasons.

Only two times in NFL history has a former Heisman Trophy winner led the NFL in passing yards, but it hasn't happened since 1950. Davey O'Brien (1939) and Johnny Lujack (1949) are the only Heisman winners to do it.

Although a Heisman winner has not led the league in passing since 1950 and no Heisman winner has ever led the league in receiving, a Heisman winner has led the NFL in rushing yards 16 times. Eight running backs have combined for 16 NFL rushing titles.
