Mind-blowing stats for the NFL Draft
Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota could go first and second in the draft, but will they both find success as starters? Take a look at what history has to say with these mind-blowing stats for the NFL Draft.

The 2015 NFL Draft will be held in Chicago, ending a 50-year run of drafts in New York. The last time the draft was held in Chicago was 1964, when Lyndon B. Johnson was president and an NFL-record 10 Pro Football Hall of Famers were selected in the draft. The number actually rises to 11 if you include Bill Parcells, who was selected as an offensive lineman by the Lions in the 7th round and later went on to make the Hall of Fame as a coach. Some of the notable players to make the Hall of Fame from the 1964 class: QB Roger Staubach, WR Paul Warfield, and DE Carl Eller.

Offensive linemen have accounted for 20 percent of all first-round picks in the last five drafts, the highest percentage by any position. That's the same percentage as all quarterbacks (nine percent), safeties (seven percent), and running backs (four percent) combined. The Cowboys have selected three of those first-round offensive linemen to lead the NFL in that span: G Zack Martin, C Travis Frederick, and T Tyron Smith.

With the first overall pick in the 2015 Draft, the Buccaneers are expected to select either Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota. Since their inception in 1976, the Buccaneers have had 36 different starting QBs, 23 of whom were drafted by the team and four of whom were taken in the first round (Josh Freeman, Trent Dilfer, Vinny Testaverde and Doug Williams). The Bucs are the only NFL team without a QB to make 80+ starts for the franchise.

How far has the NFL Draft come through the years? The first NFL Draft in 1936 featured nine NFL teams and 81 overall selections. The 80th NFL Draft in 2015 will feature 32 NFL teams and 256 selections. Back in 1936, the Eagles chose Heisman Trophy winner Jay Berwanger with the first overall pick, a University of Chicago halfback who decided not to play pro ball. Not a single Eagles pick from that draft ever played in a regular-season game -- an outcome that would be slightly disappointing for the 2015 Buccaneers.

After a running back was selected in the first round of every NFL draft between 1964 and 2012 (49 consecutive drafts), no RB was chosen in the opening round of the 2013 or 2014 NFL Draft. Not only has there never been a run of three straight seasons without a running back selected in the first round, but also there have been three total seasons in draft history in which no running backs were selected in the first round (1963, 2013 and 2014).

There has been much debate over the 2015 wide receiver class and whether it could rival last year's impressive crop, which set rookie records for receptions, yards and touchdowns. But while the 2014 class did set the mark for the most receivers taken in the first two rounds of any draft (12), it came up two shy of the record for most first-round wide receivers. That mark was set in 2004, when seven receivers came off the board in the opening round. Only the first two selected ever made a Pro Bowl: Larry Fitzgerald and Roy Williams.

Florida State University has had 221 players selected in the common draft era (since 1967), including Deion Sanders, Derrick Brooks, Walter Jones, Anquan Boldin and Warrick Dunn. Yet Jameis Winston would be the first Seminole to go first overall in the NFL Draft.

Following the departure of DeMarco Murray, the NFL's leading rusher in 2014, the Dallas Cowboys might consider taking a running back with their first-round draft pick in 2015 (No. 27 overall). Two of the last three running backs the Cowboys selected in the first round ended up in Canton (Tony Dorsett in 1977 and Emmitt Smith in 1990). Who was the third? Felix Jones, the only Arkansas player drafted by Razorback alum/Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in his 26 seasons with the team.

Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota could become the sixth pair of QBs to be selected with the first two picks of the NFL Draft in the common era (since 1967). The last time this happened was in 2012 when Andrew Luck was selected No. 1 by the Indianapolis Colts with Robert Griffin III going No. 2 to the Washington Redskins. However, none of the previous five pairs saw both players record a winning record as an NFL starter.

The Browns have held multiple first-round picks in three of the last four NFL Drafts, including 2015. However, the players they've taken with their five first-round selections in the last three years have been underwhelming, to say the least. Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson are no longer with the team, Barkevious Mingo has yet to record more than 5.0 sacks in a season, Johnny Manziel has yet to win an NFL game or throw a TD pass and Justin Gilbert has one career interception.
