Mind-blowing stats for the Super Bowl
This year's matchup boasts the largest age gap between quarterbacks in Super Bowl history (13 years, 48 days). Cam Newton's on a roll, but history doesn't bode well for dual-threat quarterbacks. Check out some other fun Super Bowl 50 factoids.

This year's Super Bowl will set the NFL record for biggest age gap between opposing starting quarterbacks. Peyton Manning, at 39, is 13 years and 48 days older than 26-year-old Cam Newton.

Since the 2003 season, either Peyton Manning, Tom Brady or Ben Roethlisberger has represented the AFC in the Super Bowl 12 of 13 times. This will be Peyton Manning's fourth appearance, while Tom Brady has made five appearances and Roethlisberger has made three. The only other QB to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl in that span is Baltimore's Joe Flacco.

This will be the first Super Bowl played in California since Super Bowl XXXVII took place between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Oakland Raiders on Jan. 26, 2003 in San Diego. Including Super Bowl 50, California has hosted 12 Super Bowls -- second only to Florida, which has seen 15 played in its stadiums. In total, 10 states and 19 cities have hosted the big game.

Teams that have returned an interception for a touchdown are 12-0 in Super Bowl history. The most recent example came from Super Bowl XLVIII MVP Malcolm Smith of the Seattle Seahawks. The 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the only team to bring multiple INTs to the house in a Super Bowl, returning three Rich Gannon throws for scores in Super Bowl XXXVII.

Teams to wear white jerseys are 31-18 in Super Bowl games, and have won 10 of the last 11 Super Bowls. The last team to wear white and lose in the Super Bowl was the 2010 Pittsburgh Steelers, who fell to the green-clad Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV.

Teams to make a Super Bowl after having a losing record the previous season are 3-6 all-time in Super Bowl appearances. Prior to this year, the most recent example was the 2003 Panthers, who went 7-9 in 2002 and fell in Super Bowl XXXVIII to the Patriots.

The AP Most Valuable Player Award for the regular season has gone to a quarterback 34 times in the Super Bowl era, but the MVP quarterback's team has won the Super Bowl only six times. The last quarterback to win the regular season MVP and win the Super Bowl in the same season was NFL Network's Kurt Warner, who also won the Super Bowl XXXIV MVP award in 1999.

Three quarterbacks have rushed for more than 50 yards in a Super Bowl. Joe Montana, who rushed for 59 yards in Super Bowl XIX, is the only quarterback to win a Super Bowl while accomplishing that feat. The other two players to accomplish this (Steve McNair in Super Bowl XXXIV and Colin Kaepernick in Super Bowl XLVII) both lost. Meanwhile, quarterbacks who score a rushing touchdown are 7-6 in Super Bowl games.

Of the 11 teams who boasted the NFL's No. 1 total defense in the year they made the Super Bowl, nine have come home as winners. Last year's Seahawks and the 1982 Dolphins are the only teams to lose in the Super Bowl after finishing the regular season with the NFL's top defense.

A warning to the slow-starting team: the largest comeback ever pulled off in Super Bowl history is just 10 points. Three teams have achieved that feat in a Super Bowl, including last year's Patriots, who were down 24-14 entering the fourth quarter.
