Mind-blowing stats for the Top 100 Players of 2016: 30-21
The "Top 100 Players of 2016" countdown continues. See the mind-blowing stats that prove why these guys made the list.

Drew Brees is fourth on the all-time passing yards list with 60,903 yards. You don't get that high up the list without winning the single-season passing yards title a few times. In fact, Brees has won the honor on six occasions, including last season. That's the most passing titles by a single player in NFL history as Brees has one more than Hall of Famers Dan Marino, Otto Graham and Sonny Jurgensen.

Last season Geno Atkins recorded 11.0 sacks which were tied for 8th-most in the NFL. For Atkins it was his 2nd double-digit sack season of his career as he posted 12.5 in 2012. Since Atkins entered the NFL in 2010, he is the only defensive tackle with 2 double-digit sacks seasons in that span.

When healthy, Tyrann Mathieu is one of the best play-making safeties in the NFL. Before he went down with injury last season his 11 tackles for loss were tied with Deone Bucannon for most among safeties and his 17 passes defensed were the most among safeties. Including the postseason, the Cardinals defense was not able to replace Mathieu's impact. They allowed 9 more points per game (28.2) in the 4 games without their star safety compared to their first 14 games with in him in the lineup (19.2).

For anyone who thought Larry Fitzgerald's career was winding down consider his numbers last season: 109 receptions (career best), 1,215 (9th best in NFL). The veteran found the fountain of youth and became just the 3rd player in NFL history to record 100+ receptions and 1,200+ receiving yards in their 12th season or later. The only other 2 players to hit those marks were Reggie Wayne (12th season - 2012) and Hall of Famer Jerry Rice (12th season - 1996).

Justin Houston has proven his ability to sack the quarterback as he's already recorded three double-digit sack seasons including an NFL-best 22.0 in 2014. The Chiefs are known for producing sack-machines having drafted Derrick Thomas, Tamba Hali, Neil Smith and Houston. But could Houston end up being the best of the bunch? If you look on a per-game basis, Houston has the most sacks per game (0.80) in Chiefs franchise history (min. 10 games). Houston's rate narrowly edges out Hall of Famer, Derrick Thomas, whose sacks per game are 0.75.

Brandon Marshall has played on 4 different teams in his 10-year NFL career. But no matter the jersey or quarterback, Marshall has produced at a very high level. Last season he hauled in 109 catches and surpassed Al Toon (93) for the Jets single-season franchise receptions record. For Marshall it was his 6th season with 100 or more receptions. He is the only player in NFL history with 100+ catches in 6 different seasons. The next closest are Andre Johnson and Wes Welker who each have 5 100-yard catch seasons.

Darrelle Revis has established himself as one of the elite cornerbacks of this era. Last season he had five interceptions and a passer rating allowed of 47.2, which was the second-lowest in the NFL to Patrick Peterson (45.6). Since entering the NFL, Revis has also recorded 132 passes defensed, the most of any player in the NFL over that span.

Joe Thomas has been selected to the Pro Bowl in each of the 9 seasons he's been in the NFL. What's even more impressive is that he has played 8,959 consecutive snaps, the longest active streak in the NFL. Thomas has never missed a single snap in his 144-game pro career.

Todd Gurley missed three games last season and still led all rookies and finished 3rd in the NFL in rushing yards (1,106). Gurley also joined a very exclusive list of Rams running backs to record 1,000 rushing yards in their rookie season: Eric Dickerson (1,808) in 1983 and Jerome Bettis (1,429) in 1993. Not surprisingly all 3 players won Offensive Rookie of the Year in those seasons.

Ben Roethlisberger is a special quarterback who has played some of his best football after turning 30 years old (he's now 34). In 2014, Roethlisberger had a career-high 4,952 passing yards, which were tied for 10th-most in a single-season in NFL history. Last year, Roethlisberger missed 4 games with sprained MCL and foot injuries, but was still able to throw for 3,938 yards. His 328.2 passing yards per game average was the 3rd-most in a season in NFL history.
