Mind-boggling stats for 2019 Week 1
The 2019 season kicked off Thursday night with the oldest rivalry in the league. Future Hall of Famers Tom Brady and Big Ben will duke it out in Pittsburgh, Christian McCaffrey is looking at another season as the Panthers' workhorse, and the reigning top two rushers will meet in Dallas. See what the numbers have to say with these mind-boggling stats for Week 1.

Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady will bring no shortage of accomplishments into their Week 1 matchup. The future Hall of Famers have combined to throw for 126,708 yards in their careers, or just shy of 72 miles. The two opposing quarterbacks have also combined for the most games played (485) and QB wins (351) among opposing QBs entering a game in NFL history.

Marcus Mariota and Baker Mayfield may be more similar than you think. Of the seven current Heisman-winning QBs in the league, Mayfield (93.7) and Mariota (89.4) have the two highest career passer ratings as pros. In 2018, Mariota (7-6 record, 93.0 passer rating) and Mayfield (6-7 record, 93.4 passer rating) also had near identical W-L records and passer ratings as starters.

If you want to crown Patrick Mahomes now, then crown him -- but don't expect the Jaguars to follow suit. Mahomes had 50 pass TD in 2018 but zero versus the Jaguars in Week 5. The only team to hold the 2018 MVP without a pass TD, the Jaguars also held Mahomes to a career-low 62.7 passer rating.

Steelers newly-minted WR1 JuJu Smith-Schuster had been chasing Antonio Brown over the last two seasons but now he is tracking down Hall of Famer Randy Moss. Smith-Schuster needs 384 receiving yards to surpass Moss (2,726) for most receiving yards prior to a player's 23rd birthday. And Smith-Schuster will have ample opportunity to do so, as he won't turn 23 until November 22, 10 games into the 2019 season.

Both Kyler Murray and Kliff Kingsbury are looking to inject some life into a Cardinals offense that averaged just 56.4 offensive plays per game last year (second-lowest in NFL).

Although Todd Gurley leads the NFL in both touches and scrimmage yards since he entered the league in 2015, Christian McCaffrey has been even more essential to the Panthers. In 2018, McCaffrey became the sixth player in NFL history to lead his team outright in carries, rushing yards, rushing TDs, receptions, receiving yards, and receiving TD over a full season.

Saquon Barkley and Ezekiel Elliott may very well be the best running backs in the NFL. When these two meet it will mark only the third time since the 1970 merger that the NFL leaders in scrimmage yards in the prior season compete in Week 1 (Adrian Peterson vs Calvin Johnson in 2013, Roger Craig vs Eric Dickerson in 1989). It's also the first time since the merger the NFL's reigning top two rushers meet in Week 1.

The NFL's 100th season began with its oldest rivalry. The Packers and Bears first met more than 97 years ago as the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Staleys. The two storied franchises have combined for the most head-to-head matchups (199, including playoffs and kickoff) in NFL history.
