Mind-boggling stats for 2019 Week 3
Sunday Night Football returns to Cleveland for the first time since Baker Mayfield was 13 years old, Russell Wilson is changing up his throwing speed, and Daniel Jones is set to start for the Giants. See what the numbers have to say with these mind-boggling stats for Week 3.

The last time Sunday Night Football was played under the lights in Cleveland was on September 14, 2008 (Week 2) or 4,025 days from Week 3's SNF showdown between the Rams and Browns in – you guessed it – Cleveland. Baker Mayfield was 13 years old, and 22-year-old Sean McVay had just started his first NFL coaching job as Jon Gruden's Assistant Wide Receivers coach in Tampa Bay.

Not only are the 2-0 49ers sporting the same record as the Rams and Seahawks, but there might be additional cause for optimism. The last time the 49ers, Seahawks, and Rams all began the season 2-0 was the 1988 season, which culminated in the third Super Bowl victory in 49ers franchise history. Oh, and the last time the 49ers started out 2-0 with both wins coming on the road? That would be the 1989 season ... in which they won their fourth Lombardi trophy.

Only 2 quarterbacks in the Super Bowl era have a 70.0+ comp pct, 7+ pass TD, and 0 INT over the first 2 games of a season. Their names are Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson, and they'll face off head-to-head on Sunday.

Only one team since at least 1940 has had a worse point differential than the 0-2 Dolphins' -92 mark through Weeks 1-2, and those 1961 Raiders (at -99) proceeded to finish 2-12. The Dolphins' total yardage differential of -640 is the 2nd-worst of any team through 2 games in the Super Bowl era, and the other 3 teams to be at -600 or worse finished a combined 7-38-1. Just how bad is it? Through 2 games of their eventual 0-16 seasons, the 2008 Lions and 2017 Browns had a combined yardage differential of 342 yards better than the 2019 Dolphins.

It goes without saying that Cam Newton and Kyler Murray have a lot in common; dual-threat QBs, Heisman winners, #1 overall draft picks, etc. But the numbers show that they share more than most fans realize. Newton (854) and Murray (657) logged the most and 2nd-most passing yards through their first 2 career starts since 1950. Newton holds the record for most passing yards through his first 3 starts (1,012), but Murray only needs 356 yards to take that record in front of Newton's face.

The Vikings and Colts are the only 2 teams with more rushing yards than passing yards through Week 2 in 2019. No team has had more rush yards than pass yards over a full season since 2011, when the Tim Tebow and Willis McGahee-led Broncos backfield piled up a league-best 2,632 rush yards on the ground. That Broncos team proceeded to win the AFC West title and defeated the Steelers in the Wild Card Round.

According to Next Gen Stats, Russell Wilson is known for holding onto the ball, and he has the 5th-longest time to throw (2.86 seconds) among 30 qualifying QBs since 2016. Wilson flipped the script in Week 2 vs the Steelers, averaging only 1.89 seconds time to throw, which was the quickest in any game by a QB with 30+ attempts since 2016. He was able to limit pressure to just a 12.8 pct rate, his 3rd- lowest in a game since 2016. The Seahawks would be wise to keep rolling with this quick-throw scheme in Week 3, when they face the Saints who have forced the highest pressure rate (46.3 pct) in the NFL this season.

Giants QB and 6th overall draft pick Daniel Jones is set to make his first NFL start this Sunday vs the Buccaneers. Almost 40 years ago, Phil Simms made his NFL debut in Week 6, 1979 ... also against the Buccaneers. Simms was 6- for-12 for 37 passing yards in a 17-14 Giants win. Jones, Simms, and Philip Rivers (traded for Eli Manning on draft day) are the only QBs selected by the Giants in the 1st round in the Common Draft era (since 1967).

If Jets QB Luke Falk can beat New England on Sunday, it will be the first time that a QB making his first NFL start has beaten Bill Belichick's Patriots (in 5 tries). It will also be the first time Gang Green has beaten the Pats at all in 1,365 days and the first time they've beaten them on the road in September since Week 2, 2001 – the game Drew Bledsoe was injured on a hit by Mo Lewis, causing Belichick to turn to 6th-round pick Tom Brady.
