Most overrated / underrated in 'The Top 100'
The debate about "The Top 100: Players of 2012" continues to rage. Did Aaron Rodgers deserve to be No. 1? Was Tom Brady ranked too low? We heard what the players thought, but what about the fans?
You had your say. Here are the results. Some of these names were somewhat polarizing, as four players were among both the most overrated and underrated.
A pair of Super Bowl titles does not impress NFL users, as Manning garnered the most votes for the NFL's most overrated player. Manning ranked 31st on the "Top 100." Manning is still not considered among the elite by some users.
Gronkowski had the most prolific season for a tight end in NFL history, and he was ranked No. 21 on the list (behind New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham). Still, NFL.com users believed he was slotted way too high.
Welker had 122 receptions for 1,569 yards and nine touchdowns in 2011. But some NFL.com users believed it was not enough to justify a rank of No. 23 in the "Top 100."
Romo passed for more than 4,000 yards, threw 31 touchdowns and had a passer rating of 102.5 (and ranks second in all-time career passer rating). But still, a large number of users believed that wasn't enough for Romo to claim his spot at No. 91. (I'm not sure if they know what overrated means.)
Manning received more than 100,000 votes -- more than five times any other player -- as most underrated player on the list. After being killed for calling himself "elite" last season, Manning backed it up on the field.
Flacco ranked second in votes for most underrated player on the list. Flacco ranked No. 74 on the list.
This seems more like it. Romo ranked No. 91 on the list -- one spot ahead of FB John Kuhn (but below FB Vonta Leach). Perhaps it's the December failures that keep him down. But still, he's put up great numbers.
Welker is the third player to be the make the most overrated and underrated list. Is it possible Welker's ranking was just right?
This vote of underrated makes a lot more sense when you consider guys like Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and Troy Polamalu are head of him on the list.
The New York Giants defensive end showed the promise that made him a 15th overall selection in 2010 with a monster season last year. Pierre-Paul ranked 24th on the list, and he might have a case to be underrated considering Lewis, Reed and Polamalu are ahead of him.
The Steelers fans have flooded the voting, saying Polamalu deserves to be much higher than his No. 19 ranking. But Polamalu often gambles too much, and his ranking might be generous. Be sure to check out the "Top 100" page to make your votes.
