Next Gen Stats for Week 9
One linebacker cracked the top 5 for speeds in Week 9 on his way to the end zone. See who it was, and more in this week's Next Gen Stats.

The fastest ball carriers on their way to the end zone during Week 9 all hit at least 20 mph: New Orleans Saints wide receiver Brandin Cooks (21.40 mph), Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins (21.27), Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Mohamed Sanu (20.88), Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks (20.56) and San Diego Chargers cornerback Jason Verrett (20.45).

Andy Dalton hit 19.06 mph as the lead blocker on Mohamed Sanu's 25-yard reverse touchdown run, faster than any Browns defender on the play. That's the 10th-fastest speed by a quarterback on any play this week.

Sammy Watkins hit 21.27 mph on a 44-yard touchdown catch and 19.80 mph on a 63-yard juggling catch in his first action since Week 6. The former is his fastest speed of the season and this is his first game with multiple max speeds as a ball carrier over 17.00 mph this season.

Aaron Rodgers entered the week running an average of 11.87 yards per drop back, but was harassed by the Panthers defense all day. In addition to taking five sacks and scrambling four times, he averaged 13.86 yards on 53 drop backs. Entering this week, Tyrod Taylor had the highest season average at 13.98 yards.

Adrian Peterson won the running back duel with Todd Gurley, though neither player was particularly efficient. Peterson averaged 4.80 yards of distance per rushing yard gained to Gurley's 5.09.

Tom Brady entered the week with the lowest average distance covered on drop backs (8.77) and his day was even easier. He was never sacked and moved an average of 8.20 yards on 39 drop backs and nearly threw for as many yards (299) as he ran on those plays (319.77).

Antonio Brown made a comeback statement in a big way, leading all receivers in distance from scrimmage as a ball carrier with 613 yards. It's the largest total by a wide receiver this season by 184 yards and 10th among all players this season. The rest of the team combined to run 293 yards combined on receptions to Brown's 512.

Blaine Gabbert recorded the two fastest speeds on a quarterback run this week (20.95 and 20.15) and four of the top six. The 20.95 mph run sealed the victory for San Francisco and makes him the third-fastest QB this season.

Jameis Winston locked in on Mike Evans, who collected two more targets than the rest of the team combined. He also ran 66.10 more yards on receptions than the rest of the team combined.

Dez Bryant and Matt Cassel earned their 18-yard touchdown hookup in the fourth quarter. Bryant ran 66.95 yards while Cassel covered 30.90 on his scramble before launching the pass with Bryant 45.66 yards away from him in the back of the end zone.
