NFL greats traded for draft picks

In his first year with the Patriots, Randy Moss set a new single-season touchdown receptions mark with 23 and helped the Patriots to a perfect regular-season record (16-0). Doug Atkins went on to play 12 years in Chicago and was named to eight Pro Bowls, four All-NFL teams and won one league title. Browns pick Larry Ross never played a down in the NFL and the other pick they received, they used on Sherman Plunkett. He went on to a 10-year career with the Colts, Chargers and Jets, but never took the field as a Brown. (Photo by NFL/NFL)

The Browns traded C Frank Gatski to the Lions for a third-round draft choice. Gatski played well in 12 games for the Lions and helped them crush his former team, the Browns, 59-14, in the NFL Championship Game. This was a classic case of the trade benefiting both teams. Fred Dean was a renowned pass rushing specialist, who former 49ers coach Bill Walsh credited for helping carry the team to its first title. The Chargers got a couple of great seasons out of Deacon Jones, while Rams selections Jim Bertelsen, Cullen Bryant and Tim Stokes all went on to have decent, if unspectacular, careers as steady rotation players. (Photos by Getty Images)

In his one full season with the Saints, Earl Campbell played relatively well, appearing in every game and gaining 643 yards and a touchdown. Back pain and an assortment of injuries forced Campbell to retire after that year. Richard Johnson provided the Oilers with solid play at the cornerback position for eight years. In 1995, Warren Moon had one of the best seasons in Vikings history. He completed 62.2 percent of his passes for 4,228 yards and 33 touchdowns with 14 interceptions. He also had a solid season in 1994, but struggled and lost his job to Brad Johnson in 1996. Oilers pick Michael Davis did not play a single game in the NFL, while the Oilers' other pick, Rodney Thomas, had six nondescript seasons with the Oilers/Titans. (Photos by Getty Images)

Andy Robustelli was already one of the best players in the league, but he performed even better in New York. He is credited for helping the Giants win the 1956 NFL title. Rams pick Jim Marconi played six seasons in a running back rotation with Los Angeles and performed well in that role. (Photos by Getty Images)

Gary Zimmerman went on to help the Broncos win two Super Bowls by protecting John Elway's blindside. Vikings pick Dewayne Washington became a productive corner for the Vikings and later the Steelers, and additional picks obtained in the trade, Henry Jordan and Orlando Thomas, also developed into solid players. Paul Krause continued what was already a sterling career (he has the rookie record of 12 interceptions) and went on to become one of the best safeties in NFL history with the Vikings. Veteran LB Marlin McKeever, pictured as a Saint, and seventh-round pick John Didion failed to become difference-makers for the Redskins. (photos by Getty Images)
