Out for the season
The NFL season is just two weeks old and there have already been a number of notable season-ending injuries.
The Chargers kicker was injured on the very first play - the opening kickoff - against the Vikings. And to add insult to injury, Percy Harvin returned the kick for a touchdown.
Beason will miss the rest of the 2011 season with a torn left Achilles' tendon. He sustained the injury in the Week 1 loss at Arizona, in the second half. Beason had signed a six-year, $51 million deal prior to the start of the season.
As if things could not get worse for the Chiefs, they lost their top playmaker in Week 2 when Charles tore the ACL in his left knee. Kansas City has started the season 0-2. And not only was this a blow to the Chiefs, but for fantasy enthusiasts who made Charles a top five pick.
Injuries are again an issue for the defending champions as Pro Bowl safety Nick Collins is done for the season because of a neck injury. Collins was carted off the field in the fourth quarter of the Packers' Week 2 win at Carolina.
Another brutal injury for the Panthers. The linebacker tore the ACL in his right knee for the third time in less than 23 months. The injury happened during the Panthers' Week 2 loss to the Packers.
The Bengals were forced to place Shipley on IR after he tore the ACL in his left knee in Sunday's loss in Denver. He was a third-round pick in 2010 and had emerged as a legitimate target.
Berry tore the ACL in his left knee while trying to pivot in the opening quarter of the Chiefs' loss at Arrowhead Stadium to the Bills in Week 1. Berry, the fifth overall pick in 2010, was one of the emerging leaders on Kansas City's young defense.
Moeaki was the first of three starters to go down for the Chiefs. The even tougher part to swallow, Moeaki was injured in the team's final preseason game. And once again, it was a torn ACL.
The Bills placed Parrish on IR on Tuesday after the receiver injured his ankle during the team's rally over the Raiders in Week 2. Parrish tried to remain in the game before eventually collapsing on the sideline.
The Browns' season got off to a rough start when Steinbach was put on IR after undergoing surgery to repair a bulging disk in his back. Steinbach had not missed a snap in two years at left guard.
