Pick 6 - Biggest KOs
The biggest sporting news over the weekend was the sucker punch heard 'round the world when Floyd Mayweather floored the latest tomato can who is not Manny Pacquiao. (Honestly, we can ask why that fight has not been made, but we know that Mayweather schedules his fights the same way an SEC program schedules its non-conference matchups.)
With that in mind, it's time to look at the six biggest sucker punches in the NFL this week, well, figuratively of course. We don't glorify violence here.
And without further ado ...

Chrysler has spent millions of dollars on an ad campaign to change the perception of its automobiles. The Lions have changed the way teams look at them in just two weeks. After dropping nearly 50 on the Chiefs, the Lions are one of the most exciting young teams in the NFL right now, and I have to say I am feeling pretty good about my preseason playoff pick for Detroit.

"Wait until Cam Newton plays the Packers" was the popular response for Newton's huge day against the Cardinals in Week 1. Newton torched Dom Capers' defense for another 400-yard passing game, and despite the three interceptions, it's safe to say that we have not seen a rookie performance like this in quite some time. Actually, the last time we saw a rookie put up this many yards in his first two starts, it was Todd Marinovich, who threw for 638 yards. Hmm, maybe we should ignore that last part.

Who says that smart guys cannot play football? Ryan Fitzpatrick has often been seen as the nerdy, Ivy League quarterback who probably did not get the girl. But Fitzpatrick has made smarts -- and beards -- look cool in Chan Gailey's offense. The next big test is the Patriots in Week 3. A win there and the Bills will be for real.

The topic #quarterbacksbetterthanromo trended for nearly a week after the Cowboys collapsed against the Jets in Week 1. Where is the outpouring of love after Romo rallied the Cowboys for a big win at San Francisco with a cracked rib? Well since I was one of those contributing, congratulations to Romo. And it turns out that Alex Smith is not one of those #quarterbacksbetterthanromo.

The Chargers have been plagued by slow starts during the Norv Turner era, and maybe this was going to be the season that they proved the critics wrong and won a big game in September. Yeah, not this year. But as the Chargers will always tell you, it's not how you start, but rather how you finish. How about finishing in the Super Bowl for once?

There are some people who will never get over the unpleasantness of what Michael Vick did, even though he has paid his debt to society. So if you feel this way, you obviously enjoyed this. Add in the fact that it came in Atlanta with the Falcons eventually winning, and this is truly your day.
