Picked second, but not second best
Former Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor is just one of the many second overall picks in the Hall of Fame. Look through our photo gallery to find out the rest.

Sid Luckman Perhaps the greatest Ivy League product every to grace a NFL field, Luckman was the second overall pick from Columbia by the Bears in 1939. He led his team to the 73-0 title win over the Redskins in 1940 and was a master of the "T" formation. He won the MVP awards in 1943. Photo by Getty Images.

Erik Dickerson Taken in 1983 out of Southern Mississippi, the running back set all sorts of records as a rookie with the Rams. He broke the rookie marks for most rushing attempts (390), most rushing yards gained (1,808) and most touchdowns rushing (18). He was the first player in NFL history to gaine 1,000 or more yards on the ground for seven consecutive years and was a six time Pro Bowl selection. Photo by Getty Images.

George McAfee A true jack-of-all trades, McAfee could do a bit of everything. Whether it be returning punts and kickoffs for touchdowns, taking a handoff to the house for a touchdown or returning an interception for a score, McAfee was a star in every phase of the game. Not to mention he pioneered the use of low-cut shoes. Photo by Getty Images.

Joe Namath Already a star after having played quarterback under Bear Bryant at Alabama, Namath brought his flashy personality to the Jets in 1965 and became known as Broadway Joe. He is best known for leading the Jets past the heavily favored Colts in Super Bowl III, and was the first quarterback to ever throw for 4,000 yards. Photo by Getty Images.

Lawrence Taylor The linebacker out of North Carolina was the Giants selection in 1981. He is widely credited with redefining the outside linebacker position with his aggressive playmaking. Ollie Matson His arrival with the Chicago Cardinals out of San Francisco University was hailed as a monumental moment. While he could not lead the last-place Cardinals to a title, he did provide his fair share of highlights and touchdowns during his six seasons in Chicago. Photo by Getty Images.

Merlin Olsen The third Ram on this list was selected in 1962 out of Utah State. He was voted into the Pro Bowl in his rookie season and played in the event every year of his career. Tom Mack The Michigan graduate was picked by the Rams in 1966. He never missed a game during his 13-year career, playing in 184 straight. The offensive left guard earned 11 Pro Bowl invitations and helped his team win eight division titles. Photo by Getty Images.

Randy White Chosen by Dallas in 1975 out of Maryland, White initially manned the middle linebacker position before switching to defensive tackle in his third season. That is when his career took off. He was named an All-Pro for nine straight seasons and was honored as the 1978 NFC Defensive Player of the Year. Photo by Getty Images.

Tony Dorsett Fresh off his Heisman Trophy season at Pittsburgh, he was taken by the Cowboys in the 1977 draft. He rushed for 1,000 or more yards in eight of his first nine years, and the one season he didnt he was still the leagues leading rusher (during the strike-shortened 1982 season). Y.A. Tittle In the 1960s, passing numbers were still nowhere near where they are today. That is except for Tittles. He had repeated seasons in which he threw for 30-plus touchdowns and 3,000-plus yards. Back then, that kind of production from a quarterback was rare, if not unheard of. Hew was a two-time NFL MVP.
