Predictions for top 10 college football games of Week 4
This weekend's slate of college football matchups includes two between ranked teams -- according to the latest CFB 24/7 Top 25 Power Rankings -- which means a potential for some shakeup in the race for the first-ever College Football Playoff.
CFB 24/7 experts Gil Brandt, Bucky Brooks, Daniel Jeremiah, Bryan Fischer, Chase Goodbread and Mike Huguenin have provided their predictions for each game.
Season records entering Week 4:
Brooks: 24-6
Brandt: 22-8
Fischer: 22-8
Huguenin: 22-8
Goodbread: 21-9
Jeremiah: 20-10

Details: Saturday, 10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
The skinny: Heisman Trophy favorite Marcus Mariota (above) and the Ducks take their first Pac-12 road trip of the season to the Palouse to battle Connor Halliday (above) and Mike Leach's high-flying Washington State team. The Cougars put up 630 passing yards on their last opponent, so Oregon's defense will have to be on top of its game no matter what the team's potent offense is doing.
Game picks:
Brandt: Oregon, 51-24
Brooks: Oregon, 45-17
Jeremiah: Oregon, 48-24
Fischer: Oregon, 51-28
Goodbread: Oregon, 58-30
Huguenin: Oregon, 56-30

Details: Saturday, 7 p.m. ET, ESPNU
The skinny: The Razorbacks look to build on the momentum of a 400-plus-yard rushing performance against Texas Tech, but this NIU team is no non-conference pushover. The Huskies are 3-0 with back-to-back road wins over Northwestern and UNLV, neither of whom can run the ball like Arkansas. NIU has a fringe pro prospect in safety Dechane Durante (above), and he'll occasionally find himself as the difference between a 10-yard gain and a long touchdown by the Razorbacks' star running backs, Alex Collins and Jonathan Williams. Another NFL prospect to keep an eye on: Arkansas defensive end Trey Flowers (above).
Game picks:
Brandt: Arkansas, 44-21
Brooks: Northern Illinois, 34-31
Jeremiah: Arkansas, 31-14
Fischer: Arkansas, 30-28
Goodbread: Arkansas, 28-21
Huguenin: Arkansas, 38-21

Details: Saturday, 3:30 ET, ESPN
The skinny: BYU is not only trying to stay perfect on the year but is gunning for a College Football Playoff berth, and will be looking put up an impressive win over a much-improved Virginia team. The Cavs' defense, led by safety Anthony Harris (above), is salty and will have a tough task in trying to contain quarterback Taysom Hill (above) and company.
Game picks:
Brandt: BYU, 27-17
Brooks: BYU, 24-20
Jeremiah: BYU, 34-31
Fischer: BYU, 27-13
Goodbread: BYU, 20-13
Huguenin: BYU, 23-17

Details: Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET, ABC regional/ESPN2
The skinny: This looms large in the "Will Brady Hoke keep his job?" argument. Utah WR Dres Anderson (above) -- the son of former NFL WR Willie "Flipper" Anderson -- is one of the best deep threats in the nation, and he will test a Michigan secondary that struggled in a loss to Notre Dame. Will he get any help from the Utes' running game? Michigan needs QB Devin Gardner (above) to avoid mistakes. He, too, needs help from his tailbacks. The health of star WR Devin Funchess is a question.
Game picks:
Brandt: Michigan, 26-20
Brooks: Utah, 24-20
Jeremiah: Michigan, 21-17
Fischer: Utah, 31-26
Goodbread: Michigan, 24-10
Huguenin: Utah, 27-24

Details: Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET, CBS
The skinny: The Gators didn't look at all ready to take on a top-five program on the road in needing triple overtime to subdue Kentucky last week. But they might have found a desperately needed receiving target in Demarcus Robinson, who caught 15 passes for 216 yards. He'll get special attention from an Alabama secondary that has question marks of its own. Meanwhile, the game's most anticipated individual battle will be UF cornerback Vernon Hargreaves' (above) matchup with Alabama star WR Amari Cooper. Other top prospects to watch: Alabama's Landon Collins (above) and A'Shawn Robinson, and Gators pass rusher Dante Fowler.
Game picks:
Brandt: Alabama, 33-20
Brooks: Alabama, 28-17
Jeremiah: Alabama, 21-17
Fischer: Alabama, 33-17
Goodbread: Alabama, 34-10
Huguenin: Alabama, 24-13

Details: Saturday, 8 p.m. ET, ESPN2
The skinny: Two great tailbacks -- Nebraska's Ameer Abdullah and Miami's Duke Johnson -- will be on view. Same goes for two great defenders -- Nebraska DE Randy Gregory (above) and UM LB Denzel Perryman (above). A great individual battle will be Gregory (6-6, 248) vs. underrated Miami OT Ereck Flowers (6-6, 322), who can open more eyes with a big performance. Gregory has more help than Perryman, though Nebraska's questionable CBs will be tested by UM's speedy WRs. Nebraska is 39-5 all-time in night home games.
Game picks:
Brandt: Miami, 27-24
Brooks: Nebraska, 27-24
Jeremiah: Miami (Fla.), 24-21
Fischer: Nebraska, 28-16
Goodbread: Nebraska, 21-20
Huguenin: Nebraska, 35-23

Details: Saturday, 7 p.m. ET, ESPN
The skinny: LSU coach Les Miles described the Bulldogs' Dak Prescott as being as good a quarterback as there is in the SEC this year. Prescott has certainly performed like it. But those performances have come against Southern Miss, UAB and South Alabama. After those three, playing at LSU will be an entirely different experience -- especially for Prescott, who will need good play around him to have a chance himself. MSU linebacker Benardrick McKinney (above) will be the best defensive player on the field, but the Tigers have a lot more defense in the way of depth and overall talent. The individual matchup to watch: MSU defensive lineman Chris Jones against the left side of the LSU offensive line, tackle La'el Collins (above) and guard Vadal Alexander.
Game picks:
Brandt: LSU, 28-17
Brooks: LSU, 24-17
Jeremiah: LSU, 24-14
Fischer: LSU, 24-21
Goodbread: LSU, 31-27
Huguenin: LSU, 24-17

Details: Saturday, 8 p.m. ET, ABC
The skinny: The suspension of FSU QB Jameis Winston (above) for this game certainly has added plenty of intrigue. FSU smashed Clemson last season; could it happen again, given the circumstances? Clemson DE Vic Beasley (above) must provide a consistent pass rush, but he'll be going against FSU OT Cameron Erving, one of the nation's best. Clemson DT Grady Jarrett must be effective in the middle against FSU guards Tre Jackson and Josue Matias. FSU CBs Ronald Darby and P.J. Williams might be the nation's best duo. Clemson sophomore WR Mike Williams is a rising star.
Game picks:
Brandt: Florida State, 20-13
Brooks: Florida State, 31-21
Jeremiah: Florida State, 28-21
Fischer: Florida State, 31-24
Goodbread: Florida State, 24-13
Huguenin: Florida State, 27-14

Details: Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET, FOX
The skinny: A hugely important early Big 12 game thanks to a West Virginia squad that will give any team -- just ask Alabama -- trouble behind Clint Trickett (above) and a dangerous stable of wide receivers. Oklahoma will be without top running back Keith Ford, putting more pressure on quarterback Trevor Knight (above) and the rest of the quick-strike offense that looked impressive last week at home against Tennessee.
Game picks:
Brandt: Oklahoma, 37-27
Brooks: Oklahoma, 38-30
Jeremiah: West Virginia, 35-31
Fischer: Oklahoma, 42-28
Goodbread: Oklahoma, 40-20
Huguenin: Oklahoma, 38-28

Details: Auburn defense puts Lockett on lockdown
The skinny: One of the biggest non-conference games of the year, Auburn will make a difficult Thursday-night trip to the Little Apple. Heisman Trophy candidate Nick Marshall (above) will have to be on top of his game if the Tigers are to survive the upset against a well-coached Bill Snyder team. Keep an eye on Wildcats receiver Tyler Lockett (above), who can bust off a big play or two against a defense still looking for an early-season test.
Game picks:
Brandt: Auburn, 38-28
Brooks: Auburn, 34-27
Jeremiah: Auburn, 31-28
Fischer: Auburn, 27-24
Goodbread: Auburn, 33-27
Huguenin: Auburn, 31-23
