Top 100 2012 Episode 2 Recap
Episode No. 2 of "The Top 100 Players of 2012" is in the books, and there were no an egregious inclusions -- like, say, John Kuhn -- this week. In fact, the players almost got everything right, so congratulations for all of that. Here's a quick rundown of Nos. 90-81.

It's tough to say where Nicks should place when you haven't seen the complete list. But it's safe to assume Victor Cruz will end up in the top 100, and it would be a mistake to have him ahead of Nicks, who really was one of the biggest unsung heroes for the Giants in Super Bowl XLVI. Nicks has the skill-set to be a top-5 receiver, so his ranking here is very low. Seriously, do the Giants not vote on this?

The one thing that sticks out about Freeney is that he probably doesn't know any of his teammates even though he's been with the Indianapolis Colts for 10 seasons. All of his buddies are gone. But this seems like a good spot for him.

Turner's statistics from last year are a touch misleading, because it's hard to remember a game in which he really dominated and carried his team. Turner will likely decline this season, and I would much rather have guys like Chris Johnson (No. 100) and Marshawn Lynch (No. 94) over Turner.

Fletcher continues to be a consistent performer who seems to get better with age. He didn't make a Pro Bowl until 2009, but since then he's been selected three straight. So this ranking is just about where it needs to be.

Cast aside by San Diego, Sproles had a great year in New Orleans. Glad to see a guy who isn't a traditional, bruising running back get recognition for what he brings to the return game and as a receiver out of the backfield. I'd say he was ranked in the right spot; if anything, he might be a little too low.

Bowman is in the right spot for this time in his career, but he's really just starting to reach his potential with the San Francisco 49ers. He's going to be a lot higher on this list next season and deservedly so.

Long had to face some high expectations after the Rams made him the second overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. He's fulfilling those expectations now, coming off the finest season of his career (13.5 sacks). Remember, the St. Louis FC was awful; opponents weren't throwing the ball a ton, and Long took advantage of his opportunities.

Again, without seeing who is ahead of Jackson, it's kind of hard to determine what his ranking here really means. One thing's for sure; if he had stayed healthy for the entire 2011 season, this would be way too low. I do agree with him being ranked ahead of all of the running backs below him on this list. So for right now, I'm saying this is a good place for him.

Thomas is widely considered by those in the know to be the best offensive lineman in football. So why is he so low? I have to imagine some other offensive linemen are going to be ranked above him, so what happened here? Thomas was No. 43 last year. Did he get that much worse in the course of one season?

Wilfork also dropped this year, falling from No. 35 to No. 81, and his free-fall was as baffling as Thomas'. Do players just not respect the Patriots defense after its struggles in 2011? It would be interesting to learn the rationale behind his ranking.
