Top 25 seniors-to-be
Take a look at the top college players to watch in the fall.

Particulars: 6-1, 327
Buzz: Shelton (right) should be the No. 1 or No. 2 nose tackle on most teams' draft boards heading into the 2014 season. He is stout in the middle of the line, taking up two blockers and doing a nice job of stopping the run. Shelton could stand to become a bit more disruptive, but no one questions his value as a middle-of-the-line run-stuffer. He will be a three-year starter for the Huskies.

Particulars: 6-0, 240
Buzz: Perryman is a tough, physical guy whose lack of height is going to be a concern for some teams; he probably isn't even as tall as his listed height. Perryman has been a key defender for Miami since he stepped on campus. He has been moved to middle linebacker for spring practice and should thrive in his new role. He moves well laterally and brings the wood. Perryman has the necessary quickness to be effective in coverage, though he could use more consistency in that area.

Particulars: 6-6, 321
Buzz: Oklahoma has two senior tackles, Williams and Tyrus Thompson. Williams is considered the better pro prospect despite playing on the right side. He suffered a knee injury late in the 2012 season but wasn't bothered by it in 2013. He has excellent size and is an above-average athlete for his size (he runs sub-5.0s in the 40). He can be dominant at times, but also looks lackluster in the same game; consistency obviously is an issue, but his athleticism means he has a big upside. Williams will be a three-year starter for the Sooners and should be the best lineman in the Big 12.

Particulars: 5-11, 208
Buzz: Richards should be one of the top two or three strong safeties in the nation after a solid 2013 campaign; he had 68 tackles and led the team with three interceptions. Richards, who will be a three-year starter for the Cardinal, is good in run support, thanks to his physical nature. Richards also has 15 pass breakups in the past two seasons and is a heady, instinctive player.

Particulars: 6-0, 180
Buzz: This guy has been FSU's best receiver the past two seasons; he might not have the upside of former teammate Kelvin Benjamin, but he is far more polished and far more fluid. Greene has 171 receptions in three seasons, and 22 have gone for TDs. He has good hands and runs good routes. He lacks elite speed but is fast enough and is advanced in terms of technique.

Particulars: 6-1, 200
Buzz: Drummond is heading into his third season as a starter and was a vital cog in a Spartans unit that led the nation in total defense in 2013. He was second on the team with 91 tackles and showed a willingness to deliver a blow in run support. He also tied for the team lead with four interceptions and added six pass breakups. He has solid ball skills and decent speed and should vie for All-American honors.

Particulars: 5-10, 225
Buzz: At first glance, that height and weight combination says "chunky," but he's not. Goodley runs well (he has been timed at 4.41 in the 40) and is a big-time deep threat. He had 71 receptions for 1,339 yards (18.9 yards per catch) and 13 TDs last season, and he again should be QB Bryce Petty's favorite receiver this season. He had eight 100-yard games in 2013, his first season as a full-time starter. Goodley has squatted 660 pounds, the second-best mark on the team regardless of position, and his broad jump has been measured at 10 feet, 7 inches.

Particulars: 5-11, 200
Buzz: He has started for two seasons and been an All-Mountain West Conference selection twice. He has 13 picks in the past two seasons, including seven in 2013, which ranked second nationally. He toyed with the idea of turning pro, but decided to remain for his senior season. He is effective in run support and had eight tackles for loss in 2013.

Particulars: 5-11, 175
Buzz: Lockett is both speedy and quick. He can play wide but is a good fit in the slot, where he can put his elusiveness to good use. Despite playing in a run-first attack, Lockett had 81 receptions and 11 TD catches last season. Lockett, who has been clocked in under 4.4 in the 40, doubles as one of the nation's best return men.

Particulars: 6-6, 258
Buzz: Reed could stand to add some weight and bulk, but he still was one of just two players nationally in 2013 with at least five sacks, four pass breakups and five forced fumbles. The other? Sure-fire first-round pick Khalil Mack of Buffalo. Reed finished with 10 sacks, four breakups, five forced fumbles, 12 quarterback hurries and 16.5 tackles for loss. He thought about turning pro but decided to remain in school; in doing so, he made himself a potential first-rounder. It will be intriguing to see how he performs for new coach Charlie Strong, who is known for his aggressive defenses.

Particulars: 6-5, 291
Buzz: He didn't play at all as a redshirt freshman in 2011 but has started every game since. He was the Orange's right tackle in 2012, then moved to the left side last fall to replace New York Giants first-rounder Justin Pugh and played at a high level. Hickey thought about turning pro but decided to stay in school; in doing so, he gave himself a chance to go in the first round of the 2015 draft. Hickey is athletic and proved last fall he has the needed physical tools to play left tackle despite battling a high ankle sprain late in the season. Hickey also has great strength: He has benched as much as 525 pounds, and during offseason drills last winter, he did 41 reps at 225 pounds.

Particulars: 6-6, 309
Buzz: He was a first-team All-Big East pick in 2012 as a sophomore and a first-team All-AAC selection in 2013, when he was the best offensive lineman in the league. He gained 20 pounds last offseason, and it paid off as Cincy placed a bigger emphasis on a power running game. Lefeld has good feet and has been solid in pass protection at left tackle.

Particulars: 6-4, 330
Buzz: Jackson toyed with the idea of turning pro after his junior season but decided to remain in school. He has a chance to be the first guard off the board in the 2015 draft. He is a physical run blocker who can get to the second level easily. He could become more consistent in pass protection, but he showed improvement in that area in 2013.

Particulars: 6-2, 201
Buzz: He quietly put up big numbers in 2013, throwing for 3,635 yards and 28 touchdowns and also rushing for 608 yards and nine touchdowns. But he was overshadowed in his own league by, among others, Marcus Mariota and Brett Hundley. Interestingly, he was the second-team all-league pick by coaches, behind Mariota but ahead of Hundley. He has thrown 57 TD passes in two seasons in coach Todd Graham's offense and is a good fit for Graham's version of the spread. Kelly does need to cut down on his interception total (21 in two seasons).

Particulars: 6-5, 220
Buzz: Mannion threw for 4,662 yards and 37 TDs in 2013, figures that ranked second and tied for third, respectively, in the nation. Mannion, who already has graduated, flirted with the idea of turning pro but decided to stay at Oregon State after he reportedly was given a third-round grade. Mannion has good size and a nice arm, but he has issues with his decision-making, especially when facing pressure. He has thrown 46 career interceptions, the most of any quarterback returning this fall. He has a good upside, though, and will enter the season as one of the nation's top 10 quarterbacks overall.

Particulars: 6-3, 285
Buzz: Bennett was a reserve in each of his first two seasons, playing end and tackle. He became a starter in 2013 and quickly emerged as one of the best interior linemen in the league. Bennett is aggressive and physical. He moves well laterally, too. And there aren't many tackles nationally with his type of pass-rush skills. He had 38 tackles, seven sacks, 11.5 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in 2013. He should be one of the top three tackles nationally and the leader of what easily should be one of the nation's top three defensive lines.

Particulars: 5-9, 190
Buzz: He said he never seriously considered entering the draft despite rushing for 2,827 yards and catching 50 passes the past two seasons. He lacks elite speed, but is fast enough to have had eight rushes of 30-plus yards in 2013. Fumbling issues have been a problem, though.

Particulars: 6-5, 315
Buzz: He will head into the season as one of the top three or four tackles nationally, and his physical nature and aggressiveness give him a chance to be No. 1 by season's end. He started at guard in 2012 and moved to left tackle in 2013; one notable trait is that he is a mauler in the running game. Collins was one of the nation's top offensive line prospects coming out of high school in Baton Rouge, La., in 2011, and he has lived up to the billing.

Particulars: 6-5, 315
Buzz: He's from small-town Dennison, Iowa, best-known for being the birthplace of actress Donna Reed. Soon, it also will be known as the birthplace of NFL starting left tackle Brandon Scherff. Scherff is strong, physical and can run; he should join recent Iowa linemen Bryan Bulaga, Robert Gallery and Riley Reiff as a first-round pick.

Particulars: 6-2, 235
Buzz: His size means he will move to linebacker in the NFL; his athleticism and pass-rush skills mean some team almost certainly will use an early pick on him in the 2015 draft to provide him an opportunity. Beasley led the ACC and was tied for third nationally with 13 sacks in 2013, giving him 21 in his career. He also had 23 tackles for loss in 2013, raising his career total to 31. He received a second-round grade from the NFL Draft Advisory Board and decided to stay in school. He should be on every preseason All-American list this fall. Beasley is quick off the ball -- he was clocked at 4.47 seconds in the 40-yard dash in high school as a 215-pounder -- but he also has a nice spin move and a surprisingly effective bull rush. He also is adept at using his hands to keep opposing offensive linemen off his body.

Particulars: 6-2, 215
Buzz: He thought about turning pro after his junior season, but he smartly decided to return; he likely wouldn't have been one of the first 10 quarterbacks selected. He is a great fit for coach Urban Meyer's spread offense and is a true dual-threat quarterback. Still, he must improve as a passer. The better he becomes in that facet of the game, the earlier he will hear his name called in the 2015 draft. He should go into this fall as one of the top five Heisman contenders.
(Perry Knotts/NFL)

Particulars: 6-5, 300
Buzz: He was a part-time starter at guard as a redshirt freshman in 2011, a full-time starter at guard in 2012 and the starter at right tackle in 2013. He will move to the left side this fall and should be the third consecutive Aggies player at that position to be a first-round pick, following Luke Joeckel (No. 2 overall in 2013) and Jake Matthews (a potential top-10 pick in May). Ogbuehi (pronounced Ah-BOO-hee) toyed with the idea of turning pro after the 2013 season but decided to return and play left tackle. He is a solid run blocker and will get a chance to show off his athleticism on the left side this fall.
(Aaron M. Sprecher/NFL)

Particulars: 6-6, 320
Buzz: He surprised some observers by returning for his senior season, but it was a good move. Rather than being one of the top six tackles in the 2014 draft, he should be one of the first two or three tackles off the board in the 2015 draft. He still is learning how to play tackle; he was a defensive lineman in high school and in his first season at FSU. He was moved to the offensive line in 2012 and was a revelation. He has a nasty streak and good feet. Erving has lapses in concentration and technique, but when he is at his best, there is not a better tackle in the nation.

Particulars: 5-10, 195
Buzz: He surprised more than a few NFL folks by remaining in school for his senior season. He will go into the season as the nation's top cornerback, but that's the same moniker that was applied to Ohio State's Bradley Roby in 2013, and he underachieved. Ekpre-Olomu will be the only returning starter in Oregon's secondary, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see opposing quarterbacks try to stay away from him. Ekpre-Olomu has seven interceptions and 30 pass breakups in his career and relies on good instincts and ball skills rather than blazing speed. He does have good speed, though, and is more than willing in run support; he had 84 tackles in 2013 and 63 in '12.
(AP Photo/Bret Hartman)

Particulars: 6-3, 230
Buzz: He put up big numbers in 2013 as a first-time starter: 3,844 passing yards, 30 passing TDs, two interceptions, 11 rushing TDs. Art Briles' offense is quarterback-friendly, but Petty performed beyond expectations. He considered turning pro. Petty has a relatively small body of work, and one more season with Briles should lead to even bigger numbers in 2014. He has good size and mobility and possesses a nice arm. He easily has 4,000-yard potential and also is a potential first-rounder in the 2015 draft.
