Top Single-Season Fantasy Wide Receiver Performances Since 2001
As we get geared up for yet another exciting fantasy football campaign, let's take a look back at the best single-season performances of the last decade. Our list is based on a standard scoring system, and takes into account only the highest point totals for the players who had multiple enormous fantasy seasons.

One of the elite wide receivers in fantasy football for much of his career, Moss has posted 10 seasons with 1,000-plus yards and has scored double-digit touchdowns nine times. He put up the best year ever for a fantasy wideout in 2007, posting 98 receptions for 1,493 yards and an NFL-record 23 touchdown catches. Unfortunately, Moss' fantasy value and numbers have dropped significantly the last two years.

Harrison established himself as one of the top fantasy wideouts in the league during his time with the Colts. He posted no fewer than 1,146 yards and scored double-digit touchdowns from 1999-2006, but his best fantasy campaign came in 2001. That season, Harrison put up 109 catches, 1,524 yards and found the end zone a career-best 15 times. He would a record 143 receptions the very next season.

Holt produced several productive seasons for fantasy owners during his time in St. Louis, where he was one of the main members of the Greatest Show on Turf. He put up the best single-season numbers of his career in 2003, recording career bests in catches (117), yards (1,696) and touchdowns (12). Overall, Holt recorded eight straight 1,000-yard seasons with the Rams before falling off the radar in 2009.

One of the elite fantasy wide receivers of our time, Owens has been an absolute stat-sheet stuffer since very early in his career with the 49ers. While hes had a number of huge seasons, it was with the Niners that Owens has the best single-year totals of his career. With Jeff Garcia under center, T.O. put up an impressive 93 receptions, 1,412 yards and what remains a career-best 16 touchdown catches.

Muhammad was never on the same level as Randy Moss, Marvin Harrison or Terrell Owens, but he did have one of the best fantasy seasons among wide receivers in 2004. The veteran out of Michigan State put up career highs in catches (93), yards (1,405) and touchdowns (16), en route to being the top wide receiver in fantasy that year. Unfortunately, Muhammad never had another 1,000-yard campaign.

The year after his teammate, Muhsin Muhammad, exploded for his best fantasy season, Smith put up what remains his best statistical output. With Jake Delhomme at the helm of the offense, the Utah product went off for career highs in receptions (103), receiving yards (1,563) and touchdowns (12). Smith had three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons after 2005, but his numbers dropped off in 2009.

Like many wide receivers in the past, Edwards broke out in his third NFL season with an impressive 80 receptions, 1,289 yards and a career-best 16 touchdowns. Despite that level of success, however, its been all downhill for Edwards ever since. Between Cleveland and New York, the veteran out of Michigan has scored a combined 14 touchdowns over the last three years with zero 1,000-yard campaigns.

Before he was winning Super Bowl MVPs or Dancing with the Stars, Ward was putting up some major numbers for fantasy owners. His most successful statistical campaign occurred in 2002, when Ward recorded career bests in catches (112), yards (1,329) and touchdowns (12). Ward, whose numbers have fallen in recent years, has a total of six 1,000-yard seasons on his lengthy and impressive NFL resume.

If youve been playing fantasy football for the last four years, you know that Fitzgerald is one of the elite players at his position. He was at his best from a statistical perspective in 2008, when he recorded an impressive 96 receptions and career bests in both yards (1,431) and touchdowns (13). Overall, the talented Fitzgerald has produced four consecutive seasons with better than 1,000 receiving yards.

Johnson, one of the truly elite wide receivers in fantasy football, has been a stat-sheet machine since 2008. However, he recorded the best numbers of his career the following year with 101 catches, 1,569 yards and a personal-best nine touchdowns. Had he not missed three games with lingering ankle problems, Johnson actually would have been in a position to have his best fantasy season in 2010.
