Week 6 fantasy stock watch
The NFL changes in an instant, which is why it's important to stay abreast of how your players are looking prior to Sundays. Below is a look at whose stock is rising, and whose is falling, as we approach Week 6. Keep an eye on these players heading into Sunday to help make the right choices for your fantasy lineup, as their stock could be on the move again before kickoff.

Watkins had a coming out party in Week 2 when he torched the Miami Dolphins for 117 yards and a touchdown, but after that things got quiet. Too quiet. That's part of the reason why the Bills made the switch to Kyle Orton at quarterback from EJ Manuel. So far, so good for the Orton-Watkins connection, as the Clemson product caught seven of his 10 targets last week for 87 yards. Watkins' arrow is pointing up with Orton under center.

It has been a year to forget so far for A.J. Green. The superstar wide receiver has already missed time with a toe injury, and it appears he aggravated that injury beyond turf toe now, as he was carted away from practice earlier this week. It's now unlikely that Green will play on Sunday, and with the team's bye week in the rearview mirror he could be missing more time in the near future. But hey, at least he won't need surgery.

Beckham was the talk of the Giants offseason, but not for his play on the field. It was because he couldn't get on the field. After being dogged by a hamstring injury, Beckham finally got his chance to shine last week, and he shined brightly. Beckham had 44 receiving yards and a touchdown, and could have had an even bigger day had Eli Manning not overthrown him. The Giants offense is gelling and just got back one of its most talented pieces. Beckham's stock is very much on the rise.

Johnson had already been hampered by a bum ankle, making it that much worse that he aggravated the same ankle last week. Johnson appears to be a long-shot to play on Sunday, and there's a possibility he could miss even more time. Sadly, Megatron's arrow has been pointing downward since his monster Week 1 performance. That decline is just a lot more steep heading into Week 6.

Bell was off to a fantastic start this season, but was slowed last week by the Jacksonville Jaguars, of all teams. Or maybe, it was his coaches. They admitted this week that they went pass-heavy against the Jags (but they didn't admit that it wasn't too effective). What has been effective, is Bell toting the rock a ton. He'll be facing the Cleveland Browns defense that he's already gashed for 197 total yards. Don't you dare leave him out of your lineup this week.

It's never a good sign when your coordinator spent the offseason catering plays for you, only to have him come out six weeks into the season saying he needs to be more than a decoy. Yet, that's exactly what has happened to Patterson, everyone's favorite offseason sleeper. His arrow is firmly pointed in a downward direction until he shows us something on the field. Come on, Patterson, we'll settle for almost anything!

Davis started the year as the third-string quarterback for the Rams. Now? He's thrown six touchdown passes over the last two weeks and could be an intriguing fantasy starter. The points have been there for Davis, and the job is now his to lose. He has a big test on Monday against the 49ers, but if he delivers again we'll know he's the real deal.

Ball was struggling as the lead back for the Broncos after most pundits had crowed all offseason about how he'd come in and be Knowshon Moreno 2.0. That was far from the case, and Ball's situation has gotten worse as he's suffered a potentially serious groin injury and will miss a significant amount of time. His job could be in jeopardy if any of the backs behind him prove themselves. Speaking of ...

The three-headed monster of Ronnie Hillman, C.J. Anderson and Juwan Thompson will be taking over for Ball behind Peyton Manning. Their stocks are all on the rise, but moderately, as we have yet to see how the carries will be divvied. Hillman was No. 2 on the depth chart, but NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport has said Thompson is the name to watch in this backfield. Oh, we will be watching, Ian. Very closely.

It pains me to write bad things about Toby Gerhart, as I feel he's getting a raw deal and suffering in the public eye because of it. Gerhart is a good back, but being a big back hampered by a bad ankle behind a bad offensive line has been a recipe for disaster. It's very likely Gerhart loses his starting job soon (potentially to the next guy on this list). He's getting close to not even being worth a roster spot in standard scoring leagues.

Johnson saw his first real action last week, and turned his four rushes (and seven snaps) into 27 rushing yards. Head coach Gus Bradley admitted that Johnson looked "very impressive." The Jags are looking for a leader in their backfield, and Johnson might just be ticketed for a larger role as they search for that leader.

The Jets offense has struggled. Mightily. With Eric Decker hampered by a nagging hamstring injury, this offense has been devoid of playmakers and it has shown. During their four-game losing streak (including Week 2 when Decker was injured), the offense is averaging just 15 points per game and 182 passing yards per game. Until they prove otherwise, Chris Ivory is the only player worth starting on this offense.

A few years ago, the Patriots ran a two-tight end offense to devastating effect. That same style of offense was flashed once again on Sunday night with Rob Gronkowski and their newly acquired Tim Wright carving up the vaunted Bengals defense. Wright only played on 19 of the team's 84 snaps, but turned that small amount of work into five catches, 85 yards and a touchdown. It's too early to tell if this was a one-week scheme from Bill Belichick, or a sign of things to come. It's worth keeping an eye on Wright either way, however. Hear him discuss his potentially growing role in the offense on NFL Now.

This isn't to suggest Murray owners should start worrying about their star fantasy player. It's simply an indication that his immense week-to-week workload could be lessened. Team owner Jerry Jones admitted that the team needs to give more carries to backup running backs Lance Dunbar and Joseph Randle. In all honesty, this will be good for Murray long-term, as he has a lengthy injury history in his short career. His touches could see a slight downtick in the near future, but the Cowboys will need to rely on him early and often against Seattle on Sunday.

Martin received a vote of confidence from the coaching staff this week that he could still be the man in their backfield. Now it's just up to Martin to prove it and deliver in the stat sheets. He has a tough task this week against the Ravens defense, which is why Michael Fabiano suggests sitting him this week. Regardless, Martin's arrow is pointing up -- at least for the short term.

One year after leading the NFL in receptions and targets, Garcon is off to a rough start. Through five games last season he had been targeted 59 times, catching 35 of those for 408 receiving yards and two touchdowns. After five games in 2014? He has 26 receptions on 41 targets for 278 yards and one touchdown. Garcon didn't have a game last season with fewer than five catches, but he's had three such contests in 2014. He could still bounce-back, but for now his stock is falling.

Williams looked great while replacing the injured Rashad Jennings last week, and with Jennings expected to miss Week 6, Williams will be the bell cow for the Giants. The Boston College product has a great matchup against the Eagles to boot, and should be considered a lock as an RB2 this week.
