Antone Smith is done for the season.
The Atlanta Falcons announced Monday that the running back has been placed on injured reserve with a broken leg. Smith suffered the injury during Sunday's 19-17 win over the Carolina Panthers.
Smith, 29, was a big-play machine when given the opportunity this season, racking up five scoring plays of 38 yards or longer (two rushing, three receiving). Despite that penchant for explosive playmaking, Smith never found a steady role in Atlanta's offense. He had just 23 carries all season, to go with 13 receptions.
Devonta Freeman will likely step into a bigger role behind starter Steven Jackson. Smith, who is in the final year of his contract, might have played his final snap for the Falcons.
