There could be some intrigue brewing at the No. 3 overall spot in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The New York Giants, owners of the third overall selection, plan to work out Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders privately on Thursday, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Monday.
New York has done plenty of homework on Sanders -- including sending a large contingent to the Buffaloes' showcase event on April 4 -- throughout the lead-up to the draft, Pelissero noted, and will get one more very close look a week prior to the first round's kickoff on April 24 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Sanders, viewed widely as the No. 2 quarterback prospect of the 2025 class behind Miami's Cam Ward, is one of the most intriguing prospects of the draft in terms of where he'll land. He's had visits with the Cleveland Browns, who own the No. 2 pick, and the Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 21), with the New Orleans Saints at No. 9 having become a trending destination following news that Derek Carr was dealing with a serious shoulder injury. He's also set for a visit with the Las Vegas Raiders (No. 6) this week.
The Tennessee Titans sit at the top of the draft and all signs point to them selecting Ward at No. 1. The Browns, who have Deshaun Watson under contract but likely to miss the upcoming season with an injury, have added veteran Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, so Sanders could be an option for them, as well.
The Giants, still in need of a QB for the long-term future, currently house recent veteran signees Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. Despite those acquisitions, Giants general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll would not rule out drafting a signal-caller when speaking to the media at the Annual League Meeting in March.
Sanders put up monster numbers as a senior with the Buffs, completing 74% of his passes for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns in 13 games.
If nothing more, Sanders potentially landing in Gotham adds some spice to the draft. Are the Giants really entertaining going with him at No. 3? Could they trade back into the first round should Sanders fall? Or perhaps they're trying to drum up some interest for the pick in terms of trade value.
Things are heating up on the road to Green Bay.
