Blue Ribbon Panel: Steve Mariucci

Former NFL head coach Steve Mariucci joined NFL Network in 2006. Mariucci is an analyst on NFL Network's Sunday night highlight show NFL GameDay

NFL GameDay takes fans on a 360-degree, 90-minute spin around the league at 11:30 PM ET each NFL Sunday, wrapping up the day's action. Mariucci is joined by fellow analyst Deion Sanders and host Rich Eisen.

In addition, Mariucci contributes to NFL Network's signature show, NFL Total Access, providing analysis from a former NFL head coach's perspective.

Eisen, Mariucci and Sanders also partner up with Marshall Faulk and Adam Schefter for NFL Total Access On Location, the two-hour pregame show for NFL Network's eight regular-season games.

Mariucci's first taste of broadcasting came during NFL Network's extensive coverage of Super Bowl XL from Detroit, where Mariucci served as an analyst during Super Bowl week and on game day.

Mariucci was an NFL head coach for nine years, spending six with the San Francisco 49ers and three with the Detroit Lions. He led his teams to four playoff appearances including a trip to the NFC Championship Game with the 49ers in 1997.

His coaching career began at his alma mater Northern Michigan where he was named quarterbacks and running backs coach in 1978. Mariucci also held assistant positions in the college ranks with Cal State Fullerton (1980-82) and Louisville (1983-1984).

After short coaching stints with the Orlando Renegades (USFL), Los Angeles Rams (1985) and University of Southern California (1986), Mariucci was hired at the University of California at Berkeley where he spent three years as wide receivers and special teams coach from 1987-1989, followed by a two-year stint as Offensive Coordinator.

In 1992, Mariucci joined Mike Holmgren's coaching staff with the Green Bay Packers as quarterback coach where he helped mold the talents of future Hall of Famer Brett Favre.

Mariucci returned to Cal in 1996 where he spent a season as head coach of the Golden Bears leading the team to a 6-5 record and a spot in the Aloha Bowl.

In 1997, Mariucci began his NFL head coaching career taking over the San Francisco 49ers from George Seifert.
