Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's 40-7 win over the Carolina Panthers after suffering a rib injury in the first quarter.
Daniels' exit came following his only drive of the game, which resulted in a field goal to put Washington up, 10-0.
Daniels went to the locker room to undergo X-rays, according to the CBS broadcast, and was initially deemed questionable to return before being ruled out.
Head coach Dan Quinn didn't have any concrete information following the game.
"I cannot give an update on Jayden, but I will just as soon as we find out," Quinn said. "We'll do some further tests tomorrow, and then when we get together in the afternoon we'll give you an update. But I don't have anything."
Marcus Mariota entered the game for Daniels after the Commanders defense caused a turnover two plays into Carolina's ensuing possession. The veteran's first drive went three-and-out, but he'd go on to lead scoring marches on his next three possessions before halftime.
The Commanders held a 27-0 lead entering the second half, and Daniels would re-join his teammates on the sideline out of uniform to view Washington's rout, which included another three Mariota scoring drives.
Mariota was stellar in relief with 205 yards and two touchdown tosses on 18-of-23 passing, plus another 34 yards on 11 carries.
Daniels' mother did provide an update of her son's status on social media, saying "he's fine," and NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe reported the injury is not believed to be a long-term issue.
Daniels' disposition on the sideline indicated as much, as he was seen smiling and gesturing to a cheering crowd.
The No. 2 overall pick finished 2-of-2 passing for 6 yards and had three carries for 50 yards.
His injury will bear watching going forward as the Commanders look to keep momentum rolling following a 5-2 start to the campaign.
