Eagles QB coach Doug Nussmeier rejoins Kellen Moore as Saints offensive coordinator

It's looking a bit like Philadelphia in New Orleans.

Doug Nussmeier, the Philadelphia Eagles' quarterbacks coach, is being hired as the New Orleans Saints' new offensive coordinator, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported Thursday.

Nussmeier is following new Saints head coach and ex-Eagles OC Kellen Moore to the Big Easy, where he will take on his first coordinator job -- though Moore previously announced he will call the offensive plays. It's not Nussmeier's first time in New Orleans, though, as the 54-year-old was drafted by the team in 1994 as a quarterback out of Idaho.

In the 2024 season, Moore and Nussmeier aided in the Eagles' ascent to becoming the No. 7 scoring offense in the NFL en route to winning the Super Bowl. Now they'll endeavor to improve upon a Saints offense that was 19th in points scored and 30th in yards a season ago.

Moore and Nussmeier have been inseparable over the past seven seasons -- or the duration of Moore's NFL coaching career.

Both joined the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff in 2018 -- Nussmeier as a tight ends coach and Moore as QBs coach. Moore was the Cowboys' OC from 2019-2022 with Nussmeier as his QBs coach from 2020-22. When Moore was the Los Angeles Chargers' offensive coordinator in 2023, Nussmeier was the Bolts' QB coach. It was the same setup last season with the Eagles, a union that helped Philadelphia win the franchise's second Super Bowl.

The tandem is sticking together as Moore and Nussmeier embark on a journey to turn the Saints around, with Moore as a rookie head coach and, now, Nussmeier getting his first opportunity as an offensive coordinator.
