On top of a brutal loss on Sunday, Giants quarterback Eli Manning had to answer questions about his brother, Peyton, who was linked to the use of human growth hormone in an Al Jazeera documentary on doping in sports that aired on Sunday.
Peyton passionately denied the claims and he was supported by both the Broncos and the Colts in separate statements. The report's central source, Charles Sly, a former unpaid Guyer Institute intern pharmacist, has since retracted his statements. The institute, which allegedly employed Sly, has also denied claims that Peyton was involved with performance-enhancing drugs.
"I don't really know much about it," Eli said, via The New York Post. "I think he had some comments so I would just quote him. It all seemed very odd and didn't make much sense to me."
This is part of the reason Peyton is so upset. Aside from his good name coming into question, as well as the hard work he went through during a grueling rehabilitation process from neck surgery back in 2011, Manning has seen his immediate family get dragged into the fray. In a heated rebuttal on Sunday, Manning shook as he talked about his wife's medical needs becoming public.
The story states that HGH was sent to Peyton Manning's wife, Ashley, and that Manning's agent did not deny Ashley Manning received shipments of human growth hormone. Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that Ashley was a patient at the anti-aging clinic in question.
Late Sunday night, Peyton talked with the *The MMQB* and was still furious. He mentioned that he was considering legal action against Al Jazeera.
"Yeah, I probably will," he said. "I'm that angry."
